Microsoft will release a new version of its Microsoft 365 and Office 365 subscription service that does not include Teams. This is because the European Union regulator and rival Slack have been looking closely at the package and have complained about it.
This comes after Microsoft agreed last year to sell the Office 365 suite in the EU and Switzerland without the Microsoft Teams service. Teams was added as a free feature to the Office 365 suite by the company in 2017.
Many businesses have said that Microsoft has had an unfair edge by combining the two products. The move was called “illegal” by Slack, which is owned by Salesforce. They said that Microsoft tricked users into installing Teams through its popular productivity suite and hid how much the chat and video service really cost.
A Microsoft spokesperson told Reuters that the separation of services “also takes into account feedback from the European Commission by giving multinational companies more freedom when they want to standardise their purchasing across geographies.”
Reuters said that Microsoft will show off the new Office 365 plans on Monday. At the time of publication, Microsoft had not made the change.
