Apple will also show off AI and possible AirPods and Apple Watches at its big iPhone 16 range reveal.
At times, just a title is enough. We know for sure that Apple will show off the iPhone 16 at its “It’s Glowtime” event on September 9. But Apple doesn’t ask us to fly across the country for a single item, or even book a hotel room for the first game of the 49ers season. Putting football aside, the event’s time is important because it’s the last big chance to show off a lot of new hardware before the holidays.
Monday at 10 a.m. PT is the start of the livestream. It was sent out last week with the word “Glowtime” and a colour pattern that went with it. When Apple makes these images, they like to add little clues. This one seems to be the most obvious of them all.
iCloud And Siri From Apple
Apple finally showed how it plans to use creative AI at WWDC in June. The product is very Apple, right down to the name, “Apple Intelligence,” which takes the well-known AI initials and runs with them. The “small model” method is a symbol of the company because it is learnt on small amounts of data that are useful for making the user experience better.
That makes it very different from “black box” models like OpenAI’s and Google’s Gemini, which are much bigger. We won’t know how well the plan works until Apple Intelligence is made available to more people. It’s likely to be a work in progress, which is what creative AI is all about in the end.
Siri can tell you how all of this fits into “Glowtime.” Apple announced in June that the original smart helper would be getting a much-needed makeover. The company showed off a new interface along with generative AI models and better app interaction. The familiar coloured Siri circle has been replaced with a glowing edge that goes around the screen when Siri is listening or working.
Only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be able to run Apple Intelligence out of all the iPhones that have ever been made. The company says that’s because of how old the chips are and what they can’t do. Apple can make a good case that only one of its chips was made with Apple Intelligence in mind so far, since iPhone 15 models that aren’t Pro are actually running the chipset from the iPhone 14 Pro. You can decide for yourself if you think the iPhone 15’s absence is only due to hardware issues.
Because of all of this, Apple’s event next week is a great time to say that Apple Intelligence will be built into all of the new iPhones.
The iPhone 16, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max
We’re getting closer and closer to the promise of real edge-to-edge screens. A new leak says that the iPhone 16 Pro Max might have an even bigger screen because the bezels will get smaller, going from 1.5 mm to 1.4 mm. What’s a few hundredths of a millimetre between friends? It turns out that a lot when the whole thing is less than 2mm.
Reports say that will make the Pro Max’s screen bigger, from 6.69 inches to 6.86 inches, without making the device too big to handle. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is already pretty big. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Pro is said to be going from 6.12 inches to 6.27 inches.
For yearly changes, it’s clear that the camera should get better. There is a new glass-molded lens that is thinner and lighter while greatly improving the optical zoom. This is the most interesting of the bunch. Make sure you pay attention to optical zoom options because they don’t have the same picture quality problems as digital ones.
We have a general idea of how each model looks thanks to leaked mock-ups from the beginning of the year. The biggest change on the 16 and 16 Plus is that the cameras are now set up vertically instead of diagonally. A new “Capture” button has been added to all of the models, which are made so that third parties can get started on making extras. The new feature is meant to make it easier to get to different camera functions.
But bigger cells might be the best change. Even though the screen and camera have gotten better, the battery life is still a problem. You should take this report with an even bigger grain of salt than normal because it needs more proof. In the meantime, more rumours say that Apple is making it easier for users to get new batteries. As more states and cities pass “right to repair” rules, the company has started to offer home repair services. This one definitely fits.
It’s also likely that the Pro models will get Wi-Fi 7, which is great for the newest WLAN standard.
The Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3
It’s crazy to think that the Apple Watch is 10 years old this year. They become adults so fast. Since Apple made a big deal out of the iPhone X, it makes sense that it would do the same with the Apple Watch Series 10 (Series X?). In the past few months, rumours of a major remake have died down. In their place is a familiar design with a bigger screen, with 45mm and 49mm models now available. Also, the new watch should be thinner than the old one. This is a very important thing to keep in mind when talking about watches.
It seems likely that the Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3 will get a new chip, like the iPhone 16. It might be the S10. That could mean that soon AI will be able to do more things. The most interesting feature that has been rumoured is a glucose monitor. It is also said that the device will be able to identify sleep apnoea, but as Bloomberg points out, Apple’s legal problems with Masimo could make that feature less useful.
The cheap Apple Watch SE with a plastic body might also get an update next week, which has been a long time coming.
AirPods 4
Please bear with me. It is said that Apple will show off two different models of the AirPods 4 next week. The cheaper model will take the place of the AirPods 2, which are still on sale, and the more expensive model will take the place of the AirPods 3. Are you still with me? By adding Active Noise Cancellation and Find My, the more expensive model will make it harder to tell them apart from the AirPods Pro. Also, all of the models should finally switch from Lightning to USB-C as the company changes its goods to meet EU standards.
How will Apple keep the line between the Pro pods and the mid-range pods clear? We’ll have to wait for the answer to that question because new AirPods Pro aren’t coming out next week. We might finally get the over-ear AirPods Max 2, though, four years after the first one came out.
Brand-new Macs
It’s possible that this will happen. Reports from recently say that Apple will not announce the M4 macs until November. Since the outbreak, problems with the supply chain have been deciding when the Mac will come out. A big Mac Mini without a USB-A port is said to be coming out before the end of the year, along with new iMacs and MacBook Pros.

Apple’s Glowtime event will happen on September 9 at 10 a.m. PT, that much we know for sure. We’ll be there as always to bring it to you live.
