When the third season finale of Ted Lasso came out in 2023, most people thought it was the end of the show. But there was more to it than that, even though it seemed like a pretty clear finish. There were a lot of vague statements made at the time about the end of the story they wanted to tell on the show, including star and co-creator Jason Sudeikis. Some added “for now” to make things even less clear. It was no surprise that Warner Bros. TV and Apple wanted to keep making Ted Lasso movies after its huge hit.
And they will stay in business! Ted Lasso season 4 has been picked up, putting an end to years of rumors and, let’s be honest, some very good questions about why it took so long. Now, it will probably be about three years between seasons of the show that won an Emmy.
Ted Lasso watched the ups and downs (and sometimes really bad downs) of AFC Richmond, a made-up Premier League soccer team, for three seasons. When the comedy show on Apple TV+ started in August 2020, fans were immediately drawn to the main character, Ted Lasso (Suneikis), and his big heart and Midwestern charm. He was supported by the amazing characters around him and the players who played those characters. This is why the show won so many awards, including two Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series.
But as Season 3 went on in the spring of 2023, fans grew more and more angry with what they thought were the show’s last episodes. That, along with the fact that the show only had three seasons, made a lot of people feel like it was “ending” too soon. Apple purposely didn’t say what would happen after the last episode of Season 3 ran on May 31, 2023. This left fans wondering what would happen next. After almost two years, the answer is more Ted Lasso season 4, but things could be very different. Here is what we know about and what we think we know.
When Can We Expect Ted Lasso Season 4 to Air?
After Season 3 comes out in the spring of 2023, Ted Lasso will be back for Season 4. Fans won’t know when the next part will be out until it comes out. At this point, no major production details about the renewal have been released. However, fans should stay tuned for updates on shooting, as that will likely determine when they can finally see the titular coach again on TV.
When Is Ted Lasso Season 4 Coming Out? Watch the Trailer Now:
The Ted Lasso season 4 was just announced, so there isn’t a definite release date or trailer yet. We will, however, make sure to update this area as soon as one comes out. According to new sources, filming for Season 4 will start later this July.
If everything goes as planned, shooting should be over in about a year, so don’t think it will be done before the new year.
Who’s Behind the Making of Ted Lasso Season 4?
Sudeikis and Jack Burditt, who joins Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, Bill Wrubel, Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer as executive producers, will work on the show together. Along with Julia Lindon and co-producers Sara Walker and Phoebe Walsh, Brett Goldstein and Leanne Bowen will also serve as executive producers and writers. Dylan Marron will be in charge of editing the stories.
Cast of Ted Lasso Season 4: Who’s in It?
Hunt and Goldstein should come back as Coach Beard and Roy Kent, but not on screen. Nick Mohammed has also hinted more than once that he’s probably going to return to Ted Lasso season 4, which means Nate will probably be back too. Keep an eye out for public announcements while we wait for news on casting.
Notable cast members we’d like to see again are Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca Welton, owner of AFC Richmond, Juno Temple as Keeley Jones, Phil Dunster as player Jamie Tartt, Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins, and Toheeb Jimoh as Sam Obisanya.
Goldstein and Dunster were most recently seen hanging out with Zach Braff, who used to work with Bill Lawrence as a director and has a friend named Ted Lasso. Braff posted a selfie on Instagram with the actors and Charly Clive, who will be in Lawrence’s new HBO show with Steve Carell and will be starring with Dunster. Could it mean a good thing for the next season of Ted Lasso? We hope it works out, but only time will tell.
Ted Lasso Season 4 Plot Explained:
Sudeikis hinted that Season 4 will focus on a women’s team while on the New Heights show with Jason and Travis Kelce. The plot has not been revealed yet. As a sneak peek at Season 4, Sudeikis told the football players, “Ted’s coaching a women’s team.”
If you haven’t seen Ted Lasso yet, the show is about an American coach who is hired to lead the English football team AFC Richmond. Ted is hired with the hope that he will fail, but his boss Rebecca ends up falling in love with the Kansas native as he turns her failed team into a positive group of players. The show started during the pandemic in 2020, so it’s a real “fish out of water” story that has struck a chord with fans during hard times in recent years.
Based on a concept and characters from NBC Sports, Sudeikis, Lawrence, Kelly, and Hunt made Ted Lasso into the show it is today. The show also won a lot of big TV awards and praise in its first three seasons, including several Emmys.
