The company said on Tuesday that Instagram is trying a feature that will let users reset their suggestions. You would start over with your suggestions and teach the app’s algorithm again what material you like on your Explore page, home feed, and Reels tab if you reset them.
This feature is made for people who feel like the content suggestions they get no longer match their styles. You might not be interested in cooking videos anymore, even though you liked them in the past. However, that’s what you might only see on your Reels and Explore pages.
TikTok added a feature last year that let users change their For You feeds, which this new feature is similar to.
These suggestions on Instagram will start to become more relevant to you again after you reset them. This will happen naturally over time as you connect with more posts and accounts. If you decide to reset your suggestions, you can go through your list of accounts you follow and unfollow any that share content you no longer find interesting.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, shared a video on the app’s website saying that the new feature is only meant to be used when you want to completely change things.
Mosseri said, “I want to be clear: this is a big thing to do.” Since we won’t know anything about your hobbies right now, your Instagram will be a lot less interesting at first. It will take some time for us to learn what you like again. I don’t think it’s a good idea to do this all the time, but it gives you a way out if you find yourself in a situation where you don’t feel good about what you did.
The new feature adds to Instagram’s existing tools that let users choose which suggestions to show others. People who see a post can click “Interested” or “Not Interested” to show how they feel about it and whether they want more or less of it. With Facebook’s “Hidden Words” tool, they can also hide posts that contain certain words or phrases.
There are tools on Instagram that can help you choose what to recommend every day, but there is also a new feature that lets you restart your suggestions if you want to start over.

Instagram says that the new tool will be available all over the world “soon.”
