The company Nothing updated two of its earbuds today. There are a lot of different names for these things, but the Nothing Ear is an update to the Nothing Ear (2) and the Nothing Ear (a) is more of a spiritual successor to the Nothing Ear Stick.
The most important news of the day, though, is possibly that Nothing has joined ChatGPT this time. When “AI smartphones” like the Ai Pin and the Rabbit R1 are competing for your attention, the London-based mobile company seems to have missed a step by putting the technology in their new earbuds.
What’s more, if you have the ChatGPT app on a connected Nothing phone, you can use a pinch of the headphones’ stem to ask the creative AI program questions. It works like Siri, Google Assistant, or Alexa on earbuds, but this one connects straight to OpenAI’s very popular platform.
The company says, “Nothing will also improve the Nothing smartphone user experience in Nothing OS by adding system-level entry points to ChatGPT, such as sharing screenshots and widgets that look like Nothing.” The new earbuds will be the only ones that can use this feature.
You can now pre-order both buds. There’s no evidence that the Ear Buds sound better than their predecessors thanks to a new driver setup. Also, that made room for a bigger battery that lasts up to 25% longer than the Ear’s (2). A “smart” active noise-canceling system hears sounds around it and checks to see if there is “leakage” between the buds and the ear canal.
Noise-cancelling is also better in the Ear (a), but the bright yellow colorway seems to be what Nothing is really pushing, which is different from the black and white look that its products have always had.
