TikTok has said that the app will be shut down in six days because the Supreme Court is currently considering a law that would ban it. So we thought it was time to check out some other apps that might be able to fill the TikTok-shaped hole in our lives.
TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, has until January 19 to get rid of its operations in the U.S., or it will be banned in the country. TikTok is hoping that the rule will be put on hold, but if it doesn’t, the app will be banned in the country.
While there isn’t a direct alternative to TikTok, there are some good choices that offer a similar experience. Because TikTok is so popular, many companies have spent the last few years making apps that are similar to it. Some younger companies have also tried to compete with it.
The Following Are Some Apps That You Might Want To Check Out:
Reels for Instagram
There’s a good reason why Instagram’s Reels app is one of the most popular alternatives to TikTok. A lot of the videos are the same because Instagram Reels users often share the same videos that they post on TikTok. Also, a lot of the sounds and topics that are popular on TikTok show up on Instagram Reels as well. If you want to find an app like TikTok that is similar to Instagram Reels, it might be the best choice.
TikTok’s formula, on the other hand, is hard to beat, so Instagram Reels might not be able to find videos you’re interested in as well as TikTok. The Reels recommendation system has been getting better over the past few years, though, so we can probably expect it to get even better over time.
It’s possible that Instagram Reels would become the most popular place for short videos if TikTok was banned. This is because Instagram Reels already has a lot of the same people and types of content as TikTok.
Shorts on YouTube
YouTube is another site that has been focussing on making its TikTok-like app better. If you already spend a lot of time on YouTube or like to use TikTok to find new music, YouTube Shorts might be the best option for you. This is because YouTube Shorts has access to all of YouTube’s songs and music videos.
One thing that sets YouTube Shorts apart from the other services on this list is that it works with a popular platform for long-form video material. Millions of people around the world already watch videos on YouTube every day. If TikTok were to get banned, YouTube could become the best place to watch short videos too, especially if popular TikTok artists choose YouTube as their new home for their videos.
Unfortunately, YouTube Shorts content isn’t always as interesting as it can be on TikTok or Instagram Reels because it includes content that has been taken from longer YouTube videos and shared again. Still, you could use hashtags or keywords to look for videos or material that you want to see.
Spotlight on Snapchat
If you want to find short and fun videos, Snapchat’s Spotlight feed is another good option. Spotlight, unlike TikTok and Instagram Reels, mostly only shows funny and light-hearted videos. Perhaps one of the best things about the feed is that it doesn’t have any political or news material.
Trending is a part of Spotlight where you can watch popular videos about different topics and songs that are popular right now. You can use keywords and hashtags to look for video, just like on TikTok and Instagram Reels.
One of the worst things about Snapchat Spotlight, though, is that it hasn’t been able to reach people who aren’t young. Since adults are more likely to use TikTok or Instagram Reels, the material on Spotlight might not be as interesting to you since it’s mostly for kids.
Triller
Triller, which began as a TikTok rival, might be a good choice for people who are mostly interested in TikTok’s music and dance features. Keep in mind that Triller doesn’t have as many users as TikTok, so there isn’t as much information there.
Triller is already planning how to make money off of the possibility that TikTok will be banned in the US. The company just released a website called SaveMyTikToks.com that lets TikTok users save their videos by moving them to Triller’s platform. The company wants artists to move their content to its app by offering this service.
Also, Triller just hired Sean Kim, a former TikTok executive, as its CEO to work on making the app better. Kim was TikTok’s head of product from 2019 to 2022. In that role, she oversaw the “For You” feed, how creators could make money, the developer platform, third-party connections, and other things. Adding one of TikTok’s best performers to Triller could help the platform improve its service and become a better option to TikTok.
RedNote
A lot of U.S. TikTok fans have already switched to the Chinese short-form video app Xiaohongshu, which we call RedNote. The app, which came out in 2013, is like Instagram in China.
The layout of the app looks a lot like Pinterest’s, and it has a lot of social shopping tools. It lets people watch videos and livestream at the same time. A lot of the videos you see on TikTok are on RedNote. For example, there are beauty lessons and product reviews.
There’s no guarantee that RedNote will keep the attention it’s getting now. Also, it’s not clear if the U.S. government will want to crack down on the app because it’s owned by Chinese people if it gets a lot of American users.
Lemon8
Because TikTok was about to be banned, the company has been advertising its sister app, Lemon8. Recently, TikTok started letting people use their TikTok account to get into Lemon8.
Some features of this app are the same as those on Instagram and Pinterest. Users can share slideshows and picture collections and look through content through “Following” and “For You” feeds. You can use artistic tools, filters, effects, stickers, text templates, and more on Lemon8.
But Lemon8 could get caught up in the TikTok ban, since politicians are mostly worried about the fact that TikTok is owned by Chinese people. Because of this, it’s still not clear if Lemon8 is in the U.S.
Likee
As well as letting you share short movies, Likee is a video app that lets you edit them and livestream them. More than 100 million people from all over the world use the app.
It likes AR filters like Snapchat does and lets artists use them in their videos and livestreams. Likee also has a huge music library, which means that TikTok users who want to find new music might like it.
Additionally, the app has features that let creators make money from their work by getting SuperLikes from their fans. Like the other smaller apps on this list, Likee doesn’t have as much reach as TikTok, so it’s not as easy to get people to interact with it. That could change in the future, though.
Fanbase
A subscription-based social network called Fanbase is like a mix of TikTok, Instagram, Patreon, Clubhouse, and Snapchat. There are short videos, pictures, long videos, Stories, livestreams, and audio rooms in the app. You can use the app for free, but you can pay to get access to special material.
Because of its “Flickz” feed, Fanbase could be used instead of TikTok. Like TikTok, Flickz has a feed for discovering new videos and another feed for watching videos from artists you follow. Like videos about sports, cooking, music, funny things, and more, Fanbase has a lot of different kinds of material.
The app was created to give Black artists a place to share and be appreciated, since their work is often stolen or not given enough attention on other social media sites. Fanbase doesn’t have any ads and says it will never “shadowban” or “suppress” material.
Zigazoo
For kids and teens, Zigazoo could be a good option to TikTok. It’s a new short-form video platform that’s made for young people. People think this app is safer than TikTok because it doesn’t let you leave comments and has tight rules for moderation. It has funny and silly videos.
The app lets users watch short videos or make their own based on challenges or learning tips. One of TikTok’s most famous types of content is fun dancing videos, which Zigazoo also has. The app has different video effects, sounds, and themes, just like TikTok and Instagram Reels.
The app isn’t a solution for TikTok for adults, but it’s a great one for kids and teens whose parents are worried about how TikTok might hurt their kids and teens.
Favorited
Favorited is a social app backed by a16z that turns livestreaming into a game. The app lets people who livestream connect with their viewers and make money when viewers give them virtual gifts. Additionally, creators on this app get 70% of the money made, while live makers on TikTok only get 50%.
Artists can also connect their digital shops to Favorited. Favorited, on the other hand, doesn’t have a discovery feed like TikTok does to help people find new material.
So far this year, 750,000 people have downloaded the app, and every day, thousands more sign up. The app doesn’t really exist outside of the U.S., which is a shame, but that could change of course.
Clapper
Clapper is a place that encourages real, unfiltered communication and expression. While the app is known for having few rules about what videos can be, this may not be for everyone.
You can post up to three-minute movies on Clapper.io. The app has an audio-only feature that lets users set up 20 speakers in a room with up to 2,000 people. Creators can also make communities where they can talk to their fans one-on-one.
The app does not have any ads and focusses on content that has not been edited, rather than content that has been polished to go popular. It has some changing tools for videos, but not as many as on TikTok. And, of course, not many people use the app, so there isn’t a lot of social contact.
Fable
For TikTok users who are part of the reading-focused BookTok group, Fable is a good app. It has book clubs where people can talk about the books they’re reading, a lot like how people talk about videos on TikTok.
Fable isn’t even close to being a full TikTok option because it doesn’t have the video feature. Instead, it could give BookTok creators and community members a way to keep talking on another site.
Nephew
Nepture is a new social network that was started by women and says it will put content makers first. Fans of TikTok and X are talking about the app on those sites and want to know if it has what it takes to become the next success. They have good reasons to hope that, because Neptune’s marketing approach positions the app as better than TikTok.
Either this month or in February, the test version of the app should come out. The app should be available to everyone in the spring.

The company says that on Neptune, a creator’s work will be seen not because of a formula but because of how good it is and how much it affects people. The app will also have ghost data and content feeds that users can change. This will let users try out new ideas without feeling like they have to perform.
