Once again, John Cena’s Peacemaker takes centre stage in Peacemaker season 2, which will air in the UK and US in August. He had a small role in this summer’s version of Superman.
At first, the show picked up where Gunn’s hit movie The Suicide Squad left off, focussing on Cena’s main character by putting him in a strange plot with even stranger characters.
That was more than three years ago. Since then, Peacemaker has been through a big reorganisation in the DC Universe and changes in the industry as a whole, but he seems to be stronger than ever.

Peacemaker Season 2 Cast: Whoâs New and Whoâs Back:
John Cena will play the title part in Peacemaker season 2 again. Danielle Brooks will play Adebayo, Freddie Stroma will play Vigilante, Jennifer Holland will play Harcourt, and Steve Agee will play Economos.
âJames [Gunn] and Peter [Safran, executive producer] actually both called me and said, âYou know what, we want to take some time to do this right.ââ Cena said this in an interview with Variety. It will take a little while, though.
“It was crazy to know that we did something that people want. Let’s do it again.” “No, wait, we need to do a few things first,” they all said. We also have a plan that will make everything work. We’ll be fine if you trust us.'”
It’s likely that those “few things” to do included the first official books in Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe, Superman and Creature Commandos. Frank Grillo plays Rick Flag Sr. in both of them.
Grillo will definitely be back for Peacemaker season 2, and it’s safe to say that he won’t put up with any crap, since John Cena’s annoying antihero killed his son Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman) in 2021’s The Suicide Squad.
It has been said that Kinnaman will be in season 2, but no one knows for sure yet. During a chat with ScreenRant, the actor jokedly brushed off the rumours.
“I’m not sure what to say. That’s not reasonable. I would never do that. That kind of show would never have me on it. “That’s not what I do,” the star joked (at least that’s what we think he said).
Tim Meadows (Mean Girls) and Sol Rodriguez (Star Trek: Picard) have been cast as covert agents Langston Fluery and Sasha Bordeaux, respectively. David Denman, who was in the Gunn-produced show Brightburn, has also been cast in an unspecified part.

When Is Peacemaker Season 2 Coming Out?
Peacemaker came back on August 21, 2025, with a brand-new launch that began its second season. Last season’s premiere night had three new episodes. This time, fans will have to wait longer to see what happens in episodes 2 and 3, as the show’s creator, James Gunn, revealed that the season would only start with one episode.

How Peacemaker Season 2âs Plot Connects to Superman:
John Cena plays Chris Smith, who “discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be” in the second season of Peacemaker.
“This discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands,” the summary says.
Changes that happened behind the scenes seem to have affected the story of the season. For example, writer-director James Gunn and producer Peter Safran are now co-heads of DC Studios, which was just formed.
That led to a big relaunch of DC’s shared cinematic world, but only a few beloved characters were moved to the new timeline. These included John Cena as Peacemaker and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
Peacemaker season 2 is likely to explain how that works. Gunn hinted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the so-called “pocket universe” in this summer’s Superman movie will be a link.
Gunn talked about the Quantum Unfolding Chamber in the home of Peacemaker’s father, Auggie Smith (Robert Patrick), and said, “Lex’s version is much jankier than the one in Peacemaker.”
“The one in Peacemaker works better,” the scriptwriter said next. That’s what the whole season of Peacemaker is about.
Many blockbuster films have tried to explore the idea of multiple universes in recent years, with mixed results. However, Gunn stressed that his series would be very different from those films.
“I think of Peacemaker as a story with a big idea about another world…” It’s not Wolverine and Deadpool. He also said, “It’s really a very simple story about his connection to this other world.”
The surprise appearance of the Justice League in the end of the first season is something that will definitely not be talked about. That version of the superhero team, which includes Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ezra Miller as The Flash, is no longer canon.
