One of the most popular messaging sites, ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), had problems in Pakistan on Monday for the third day in a row.
Users across the country have had trouble getting to the site for long periods of time. This is just one more example of how unstable the internet has been in the weeks before, during, and after the very contested national elections on February 8.
Downdetector says that X services were interrupted around 1:00 p.m. Earlier in the day, the social media site also had problems. It was said to be inaccessible at 10:30 a.m. and services were restored around noon.
Today is the third day in a row that there have been problems. They started soon after the now-former commissioner Rawalpindi said he was involved in cheating and other problems during the elections on February 8.
After admitting to what he called a “heinous crime,” Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha not only blamed himself but also the head of the election commission and the country’s top judge, putting them in the public eye.
The “confessions” came after a rough week for the ECP, which was already facing several rigging accusations. There are still heavy clouds of manipulation hanging over the results, which makes it even harder to believe that the votes were truly cast.
Previous reports from NetBlocks said that X/Twitter had been blocked in Pakistan for 24 hours straight, which was the longest of a series of national internet outages.
Around 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, Downdetector found at least 16 reports of possible problems on X across the country. At one point, that number rose to 83. Real-time services that check for internet and social media outages showed that people who tried to access X got the disappointing message “this site can’t be reached.”

Furthermore, the problems weren’t just limited to X. Last month, problems were recorded on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Google services, and even the internet service provider PTCL.
