Apple made some big changes to the base models of the iPhone 16 line, but the iPhone 16 Pro models looked the same as they have for the past few years. But it looks like Apple is making some big changes to the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s design, at least if these fake renders from the Russian YouTube account Wylsacom are correct.
Based on the rumours that this mock-up is based on, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will look nothing like the iPhones that came before it.
A new horizontal triple-lens camera section is on the back panel. It looks like the camera bar island on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro/XL. Talk has also been going around that the back panel of the iPhone 17 Pro models might be made mostly of aluminium, with some glass still used in other places.
It looks like the Pro models will get a big makeover. They need one because the current design has been used since the iPhone 11 Pro. Of course, you should be sceptical of these mock-ups since they’re just rumours, but in the past, models made this early on have turned out to be pretty accurate.
I really don’t know what to think about this makeover. I didn’t like how the iPhone 16 Pro looked like the previous five versions, but I did like how the iPhone 16 looked different. I’m all for a new look for the iPhone 17 Pro. But this? I’m not sure if I like it or not.
One thing is that it looks exactly like the Google Pixel 9/Pro/XL. This year, Google updated the main Pixel series to have a sleeker new camera bar. This render of the iPhone 17 Pro Max makes it look like Apple just copied the look. The horizontal camera bar is better, though, because it keeps the phone from moving around when you use it on a flat surface.
On the other hand, smartphone design seems to have reached its peak, making it hard to come up with a new idea. This phone would probably look a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S24 if Apple made one with three lenses set up vertically. One that is round, like the OnePlus 12, would work.
I’m more interested in the mostly aluminium back, though. The images make it look like it has two tones, which makes me think of the first iPhone. If the back is mostly aluminium instead of glass, it would last longer, which is always a good thing. Case users like me have always used cases. I might even decide not to count on a case as much after reading it.

No matter what, we won’t know for sure what the next iPhones will look like until September 2025. But based on the rumours, we should get ready for some big changes with the iPhone 17 family
