Display expert Ross Young says that Apple’s long-rumored folding iPhone will come out in late 2026.
It will give the “stagnating” market for foldables a new spark.
For years, we’ve been hoping for an iPhone that folds in half, and more and more people think it will happen in 2026.
There’s more rumours about a folding iPhone. A new report from a well-known industry expert says Apple will enter the foldables market in 2026 and give the whole industry a boost.
It comes from Ross Young of Display Supply Chain, a company that helps tech companies plan for the future and keeps an eye on all the companies that make goods at every stage. Along with his “optimism” about Apple’s move into the folding phone market, he talks about a market that is shrinking in his most recent report.
A Lot Of People Think Apple’s Folding Phone Will Be A Big Hit
Young says that the market for folding phones is becoming less active.
It’s mostly made up of just two brands: Samsung and Huawei. Even the most exciting folding phones, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, aren’t expected to sell very well. Young says that the market is very local.
There is “highly concentrated” demand for foldable phones in Korea and Europe, but brands have had a hard time getting customers in the US and China excited about folding phones.
In the US market, Apple is the leader, and its move into foldable iPhones is likely to spark a lot of interest. This is especially true if, as Young suggests, Apple makes existing designs better: “Any improvement in form factor, functionality, use cases, durability, etc could drive new demand for this market.”
If Apple joins the foldable phone trend, 2026 could be a big year for them. Any foldable iPhone will be a huge hit, unless it costs a crazy amount, which doesn’t seem likely. Young also thinks that at least one new company will make a tri-fold phone by 2026.
