On Meta’s Q2 2024 earnings call the day before, CEO Mark Zuckerberg talked about how his newest social media experiment, Threads, had reached “almost” 200 million people. The platform has now reached that number.
In a post on Threads, Instagram’s CEO Adam Mosseri revealed that the app’s 200 million active users mark. Meta got to that weight in just 13 months.
Mosseri wrote, “I’m happy to say that we passed the 200M mark on @threads.” “I hope that Threads can give people ideas that bring them together and help this wonderful community grow.”
Threads has grown a lot. The text-based social media site went live in July 2023 and had 150M users by April 2024. It reached 175M users in July, which was also its first birthday, and another growth spurt helped it reach 200M users a month later.
Elon Musk, the owner of Threads’ main competitor X (formerly Twitter), said in May that the app had more than 600 million daily users. Traditional Twitter died when Musk made a sudden change in direction, which upset a lot of long-time users. This was the original reason Meta created Threads, to give people another place to talk online.
As of last year, Zuckerberg said that Threads has a “good chance” of having more than a billion users. A few days ago, Meta’s CEO said that the site was growing quickly during the most recent earnings call.
“We’re steadily building what looks like it will be another big social app.” “And there is more engagement,” he said, adding, “I’m pretty happy with the direction here.”

Along with shipping features, Zuckerberg said that the company is also trying to make Threads’ content recommendation system better.
