The Information reported on Tuesday that people familiar with the matter said Meta Platforms is in talks to build a new data center building for its AI projects. The project could cost more than $200 billion.
The story said that Meta executives told data center developers that the company is thinking about building the campus in states like Louisiana, Wyoming, or Texas. This month, senior leaders visited possible sites.
Since Microsoft backed OpenAI’s ChatGPT came out in 2022, there has been a lot more investment in AI as companies in all kinds of fields try to use it in their goods and services.
A spokesperson for Meta denied the story, saying that the company’s plans for its data center and capital expenditures had already been made public and that anything else was “pure speculation.”
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said last month that the company plans to spend up to $65 billion this year to build out its AI infrastructure.

In contrast, Microsoft said it would spend about $80 billion in fiscal 2025 to build data centers, and Amazon, the huge store chain, said its 2025 spending would be more than the $75 billion that was planned in 2024.
