With the announcement of Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 will be back on Netflix.
At the end of 2023, the R-rated cartoon show shocked fans. It told a stylish animated samurai story about a Japanese fighter of mixed race who is out for payback in Edo-era Japan.
The show, which was made by husband-and-wife team Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, has been praised by critics for its beautiful animation and compelling character studies.
Is There a Release Date for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2?
Fans of Blue Eye Samurai who want to see more stories set in the same world won’t have to wait for a statement about Season 2.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix officially approved Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 of the cartoon show soon after Season 1 came out in November 2023.
Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, who created the show, have made it clear that they want to make it last for four seasons.
After getting Season 2 approved in December 2023, Blue Eye Samurai fans can start to plan when the next set of episodes will come out.
Season 1 was given the go-ahead in October 2020, and it came out three years later, in November 2023.
For Blue Eye Samurai Season 2, production will probably go a little faster. The first batch of shows was made while the world COVID-19 pandemic was at its worst, which may have slowed things down.
But that doesn’t mean that fans of the cartoon show should expect the second season to be a complete change.
The second season won’t be ready until sometime in 2026 because the filming schedule is still not complete.
Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 – Who’s in the Cast?
Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 hiring information has not been made public yet, but fans can expect to see some players back for the second season.
The most well-known person who will almost certainly be back for Season 2 is Maya Erskine as Mizu.
Mizu is the blue-eyed warrior from which the series gets its name. She was born to a Japanese woman and an unknown French man who were not married.
Another important character that is expected to show up in Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 is the Irish thief Abijah Fowler, played by Kenneth Branagh, who works for the Shogun. Masi Oka plays the charming Japanese cook Ringo, and Brenda Song plays the strong-willed Princess Akemi.
Note that some characters from the hit Netflix show will not be back for a second season. These include George Takei as Seki, Randall Park as Heiji Shindo, and Mark Dacascos as Chiaki, who all died in Season 1.
Here is a full list of the cast that will likely be back for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2:
- Maya Erskine – Mizu
- Kenneth Branagh – Abijah Fowler
- Masi Oka – Ringo
- Brenda Song – Akemi
- Darren Barnet – Taigen
- Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa – The Swordmaker
- Stephanie Hsu – Ise
- Ming-Na Wen – Madame Kaji
- Harry Shum Jr. – Takayoshi
What’s the Episode Count for Blue Eye Samurai Season 2?
Green, Noizumi, Wu, and Nettinga also said that Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 will likely have fewer episodes. The first season of the show had eight episodes, but the second season will only have six. Still, Green said that each show will still be about 44 minutes long, so fans can still expect heavy plots like in Season 1.
The team broke down why the process takes so long, even though 2026 seems like a long time away. Green said that Season 1 “took three and a half years from starting it to it being on Netflix,” which is a comparison. Wu agreed and said that the pre-production for a typical half-hour animated episode takes about nine months. Because episodes of Blue Eye Samurai are longer—the first episode was an hour long—it takes a lot longer to put together a single show.
The team said that Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 would be out in 2026, but Netflix hasn’t officially set a date for when the cartoon show will return.

What Twists and Turns Await in Blue Eye Samurai Season 2?
It looks like Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 will have a lot of story changes as the show moves to Europe.
Mizu, played by Maya Erskine, left Japan at the end of Season 1 to go on a payback tour to London.
It’s possible that (at least some of) Season 2 will take place in Europe, more especially England.
Two of Mizu’s possible dads are still out there, and she can’t wait to kill them. Leaving the country she has lived in since birth is an exciting possibility for her.
In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, who write the show, said they find it “interesting” to see how “Europeans react to her” and how she learns about Western culture:
