Vince Vaughn, who plays the lead in Bad Monkey season 2, gives a big update. He explains where the show will be filming and gives a time frame for when it will start. In Season 1 of AppleTV+’s hit Carl Hiaasen version, Vaughn played Andrew Yancy, a former detective who takes on the case of a severed arm, which turned out to be very funny. Since then, a Bad Monkey season 2 has been announced. AppleTV+ wants to make Vaughn’s strange Florida noir show even better, but apparently won’t be filming in Florida.
According to Vaughn’s most recent update, the news that Bad Monkey will move to California because of tax breaks is true. He also says that filming will begin in 2025.
Even though most of Bad Monkey season 2 will be filmed in California, Vaughn says Florida is still the setting and that some exteriors will be shot there while interiors are filmed on the other coast:
Bad Monkey Season 2 Is an Original Story, Confirms Bill Lawrence:
Fans already know that Season 1 of Bad Monkey was based on the same-named 2013 satirical crime book by Carl Hiaasen. In the same way, Season 2 will be based on the 2016 book sequel Razor Girl, which was revealed by EP Lawrence. He went into more detail about the concept by saying:
Rosa, played by Natalie Martinez, is one of the characters that Lawrence wants to be “more front and center” in Bad Monkey Season 2, so we can expect to see her again. You may remember that at the end of Season 1, she and Yancy (Vaughn) decided to split up while Yancy’s friend Ro (John Ortiz) tried to get him to work on another case.
Soon, shooting for Bad Monkey Season 2 will begin. Keep an eye on for more news about the crime story.
What It Could Mean for Bad Monkey Season 2:
Hiaasen, the author of Bad Monkey, is known for writing crime tales set in Florida. Season 1 was filmed in Miami and the Florida Keys, which is true to the source material. Real places like Blue Springs in Orange City and Duval Street in Key West were used to film Bad Monkey. These places helped capture the spirit of Hiaasen, who has lived and written his whole life in Florida.
Bad Monkey season 2 might be able to save money by moving its operations to Los Angeles, which would also allow Vaughn and showrunner Lawrence to work closer to home. However, the move could ruin the show’s true Florida feel. The show can keep the same level of writing and acting, but it will miss something important if it stops filming in the place that made it stand out.
What We Think About Bad Monkey Season 2 Move to California:
Some exteriors will be filmed back in Florida to help Bad Monkey season 2 feel like season 1, but since most of the show’s shooting takes place in California, something will probably be lost. As long as Mad Men was mostly set inside, it could pass for New York when it was really in Los Angeles. Bad Monkey, on the other hand, takes place outside a lot, making it harder to filmwithout going to real places.
For Bad Monkey, economic truth seems to have been more important than anything else. Since AppleTV+ spent $20 billion on original content, the company is apparently cutting all of its budgets. This will mean big changes for all returning shows, maybe except for Severance. Without moving to L.A. and the tax break that came with it, it’s possible that Bad Monkey season 2 would not have happened at all. With this plan, at least the show can go on, though it’s still unclear how the change from Florida to New York will affect it.
