During an event at the City University of New York where author Kai Bird, along with his producer and wife Emma Thomas, interviewed Christopher Nolen, Taylor Swift received a shout-out.
Nolan adapted Bird’s book “American Prometheus” into “Oppenheimer”, which grossed $942 million worldwide and is the highest-grossing biopic in history.
CUNY’s discussion took place just days before Swift’s “The Eras Tour” opened in theaters and grossed $92.8 million in North America and $123.5 million worldwide, easily the biggest debut for a concert movie.
In addition, it is the second-highest opening-grossing October opening in history (behind only “Joker” at $96 million) and the seventh-biggest opening weekend in 2023. In an unusual move, Swift released the film directly through AMC Theatres, bypassing the major Hollywood streaming services and studios. Nolan commended Swift for the business move.
AMC Theatres and Swift released an agreement in which Swift takes home about 57% of ticket sales, while theaters keep the remaining revenues and AMC takes a small distribution fee for the tickets, according to variety.

In addition to AMC theaters, the film opened in 3855 other theaters in the US and Canada, as well as 4527 other venues worldwide. As a result of the AMC deal, Swift could earn north of $60 million.
‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘The Eras Tour’ emerging as blockbusters prove that the theatrical business isn’t dead and hinges on new and exciting experiences for the audience.
The movie “Oppenheimer” will be available on a digital platform starting Nov. 21.
