Forget everything you thought you knew about what will happen with Yellowstone. There have been rumors for years about spin-offs, movies starring Matthew McConaughey, and Kevin Costner’s possible return in season 5. That’s all over now. John Dutton, played by Costner, is dead. In the middle episode of season 5, writer Taylor Sheridan quickly messed up the Dutton family’s plans. Anything could happen with only five shows left in the season, and maybe even the whole show.
It is said that a Yellowstone season 6 is even possible. Matthew Belloni of Puck says that Paramount is thinking about keeping the main series going even though season 5 is supposed to be the last one. Variety confirmed the story and added new information that Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler), two fan faves, are in talks to come back. Paramount hasn’t said anything about the reports yet. The network revealed earlier this fall that there would be a follow-up show called The Madison. Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox from Lost would play members of a new family called the Clyburns. The news about the Clyburns opened a can of worms about Yellowstone’s future. Who the hell are they? Read on to find out everything we know about Yellowstone season 6.
Is There Going to Be a Yellowstone Season 6?
Perhaps! Paramount had said before that Yellowstone season 6 would not be happening because they wanted to make a remake series with Matthew McConaughey in the lead role. No matter what the reason was, McConaughey never publicly agreed to work on the project, and/or Paramount changed their minds. The network is now looking at some Yellowstone cast members (but not Kevin Costner) to see if they might come back for a second season.
Yellowstone Season 6 would probably air at the same time as the new spin-off show, The Madison. It will be set in the same world as Yellowstone but will follow a different family called the Clyburns, which includes Pfeiffer and Fox. Taylor Sheridan, who created the show, is also said to be working on a prequel spin-off that will take place in 1944.
What’s the Storyline of This Show?
“Yellowstone” is a western drama TV show on the Paramount Network. It stars Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Brecken Merrill, Forrie Smith, Denim Richards, Ian Bohen, Finn Little, Ryan Bingham, Gil Birmingham, Mo Brings Plenty, Wendy Moniz, Jen Landon, and Kathryn Kelly. Also in this season are Dawn Olivieri, Kai Caster, Lainey Wilson, Lilli Kay, Kyle Red Silverstein, Jacki Weaver, Josh Lucas, and Jacki Weaver.
The story is about the Dutton family, with Costner as the father John Dutton, who runs the United States’ largest cattle ranch that is all connected to each other. The ranch is always at odds with the towns, Indian reservations, and America’s first national park that it borders. There are shifting allies, unsolved killings, open wounds, and hard-earned respect. John is sworn in as Governor of Montana at the start of Season 5.
What Have Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser Shared About Yellowstone Season 6 Speculations?
Cole Hauser’s latest comments to US Magazine don’t seem to leave much room for another season. Hauser said, “It’s been a great ride with everyone.” “You’ll have to wait until November to see how Taylor Sheridan ends it!”
When Kelly Reilly talked to EW, she was more open to the idea.
He said, “Nothing is set in stone.” “But I’d write it if Taylor asked me to.” That’s it. Because he wrote every word I’ve ever said. She was made up in his mind. On the other hand, we both agree that something needs to change. Since you can’t tell the same story over and over. The story is coming to an end. As we know it, Yellowstone is coming to an end. If there is more to say about some of the people, it will be a little different.
Is a Yellowstone Spinoff Featuring Matthew McConaughey in the Works?
Since February 2023, every story has said that McConaughey is in talks to play the lead role in the Yellowstone spinoff series. No one has said for sure yet that McConaughey has closed his deal. Puck said in February 2024 that McConaughey would not sign on until he saw a story for the spinoff.
If McConaughey signs the deal, it will be his first major TV part since the first season of HBO’s True Detective in 2014. It could also be said that McConaughey is a bigger star than Costner at this point in their lives.
Has the Spinoff Series been Named?
Yes. At an earlier stage of preparation, the Yellowstone spinoff was called 2024. Now, the official name of the show is The Madison. Along with that piece of information comes the first description of the show: it “follows a family from New York City in the Madison River valley in central Montana.” The book is also known as “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection.”
Is Yellowstone Season 6 Officially Canceled?
In May 2023, it was reported that Season 5 Part 2 of Yellowstone would be the last episode. However, it seemed like both sides had agreed that the show would end, rather than being officially canceled.
The last six episodes were still being made, so the show could end in a way that was planned.
Kevin Costner’s leaving as John Dutton was a big part of the show’s end, which was caused by disagreements over pay, schedule, and ideas.
Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan are said to have been fighting behind the scenes, which made things less stable. But Costner has said there is no bad blood. Costner has been working on Horizon, his four-part Western epic. He switched projects while Yellowstone was taking a long break.
Which Yellowstone cast members will return for the spinoff?
Before they can work on the spinoff, the stars of Yellowstone must first finish the last episodes of season 5. But some of the main stars from Yellowstone are willing to be in the series. Reilly said that talks have taken place about her being involved with the project.
In March 2024, Reilly told Collider, “I just want to finish [the main show] with as much care, passion, and love as I can muster to put into it.” “That’s important to me.” To get ready for that, I’m kind of focusing on that right now. That’s what I care about the most. And what comes after that? You should know that there are talks. Not everything you read is true. It doesn’t make sense. We’re going to wait and see, though. I’m not sure what to say right now. We’ll see, though.
In the same way, Hauser felt the same way about the sequel. His main goal is to finish Yellowstone season 5. He did say, though, that Rip, Beth, and other important characters could show up in the spinoff.
“I’m so focused on finishing Yellowstone the way it needs to be finished right now,” Hauser told Country Living in April 2024. “Well, just the show itself.” “That sounds interesting. We’ll see where it goes, but I know that Taylor has some plans for Kelly Reilly, me, and some of the other cast.” That sounds like a clever idea, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. For now, though, let’s finish strong and do the best we can.
