By adding a vertical video feed, social network X is hoping to make money off of the fact that ByteDance apps like TikTok and Lemon8 are no longer available in U.S. app stores.
For people in the U.S., the company is adding a video tab to the app’s bottom bar so they can quickly find videos on the site.
In a post on Sunday, the company said, “An immersive new home for videos is rolling out to users in the US today.”
X users can already scroll up and down through short movies by tapping on a video in the timeline. There is now a new tab for videos that is just for those films. Plus, this isn’t the first time the business has tried to find a new place for movies.
An app reverse engineer had already shown off a tab for videos in the media library, but this is the first time X is making an official statement.
Recently, the social network has been putting more emphasis on video. It came out with a separate TV app last year that could show movies from a variety of groups and creators.

Since TikTok is having trouble in the U.S., social networks are trying to take advantage of the fact that people don’t know much about ByteDance apps there. Meta released a video editor called Edits to compete with ByteDance’s CapCut. Bluesky, a company that competes with X, has also released a unique feed for vertical videos.
