Change Healthcare, an American tech company that makes healthcare products, has admitted that its systems were hacked. The business issued a short statement saying it was “experiencing a network interruption related to a cyber security issue.”
Change Healthcare wrote on its status page, “As soon as we learned of the outside threat, we disconnected our systems right away to protect our partners and patients and stop any further damage.” “The trouble is likely to last at least during the day.”
The incident started early Tuesday morning on the East Coast of the United States, according to the incident tracker.
It was not made public what kind of cybersecurity attack it was. TechCrunch checked most of the Change Healthcare login pages at the time of writing and found that they were either offline or couldn’t be reached.
A newspaper in Michigan called the Huron Daily Tribune says that local pharmacies are having trouble because of the Change Healthcare hack.
A Michigan healthcare provider called Scheurer Health wrote on its Facebook page that it can’t process prescriptions through patients’ insurance right now because of a “nationwide outage from the largest prescription processor in North America,” which is likely Change Healthcare.
A big company in the US called Change Healthcare makes technology for health care. Change Healthcare takes care of fees for patients all over the U.S. healthcare system. They say on their website that they handle 15 billion healthcare transactions every year and that one in three U.S. patient data are “touched by our clinical connectivity solutions.”
The $7.8 billion deal between UnitedHealth Group, a big health insurance company, and Change Healthcare, a big healthcare services company, gave Optum access to a lot of patient data for tens of millions of Americans.
Insurance companies and health care providers can get technology and data from Optum.

UNH Group, a big health insurance company, owns both Optum and Change Healthcare. When reached by, an Optum spokesperson did not have anything to say. Neither Change Healthcare nor UnitedHealth Group spokespersons replied to a request for comment.
