President-elect Donald Trump is getting a lot of bad press after one of his top advisors seemed to back out of a big campaign promise.
A lot of times, Trump has said that he would end the war between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours or even sooner.
But Trump chose retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg to be his special envoy to the two countries. Last week, he told Fox News that it would take longer, repeating what Trump had said earlier.
He said, “Let’s set it at 100 days, go back, and figure out a way we can do this quickly to make sure the solution is solid, it will last, and this war ends so we can stop the killing.”
In February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin started the invasion of Ukraine. It was the start of a costly and cruel operation. Last year, the Pentagon said that the war had killed or hurt more than 600,000 Russian soldiers. Last month, Ukraine said that 43,000 of its soldiers had been killed and another 370,000 had been hurt.
Kellogg told Fox News that he had “a lot of faith” in Trump to stop the killing.
Kellogg said, “I think people need to understand that he’s not trying to give Putin or the Russians something.” “He’s really trying to save Ukraine and give them back their independence, and he’ll make sure it’s fair and equal.”
Trump, on the other hand, has promised many times that the war will end much more quickly than 100 days.
In 2023, Trump said, “I would fix that within 24 hours, and if I win, I will have that war over before I take office.” “For sure.”
When asked for a time frame last week, Trump took that back.
At a press meeting last week, Trump said, “I hope to have six months.” “I hope a long time before six months.”
