Over time, The Orville changed. It wasn’t until the start of season 3 that I really noticed how much the show had changed. It’s always been one of Seth MacFarlane’s most interesting TV shows, in part because it’s a hard sci-fi show, which he hadn’t done before. Aside from playing Captain Ed Mercer on The USS Orville, MacFarlane has also written most of the show’s storylines up to this point. But he hasn’t just been working on one type of music.

Without a doubt, Star Trek had an impact on The Orville. However, MacFarlane’s sense of fun is very much present in his other TV shows as well. Even though the show is very popular, there is still no news about The Orville season 4. However, the cast and team have made a few hints that another run of episodes will happen at some point. I wouldn’t be upset if The Orville went back to how it was before it left, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if it did.

Isaac’s Storyline in “Electric Sheep” Highlights The Orville’s Evolution Beyond Parody:

At the start of The Orville, I remember being surprised by Seth MacFarlane’s mix of a true Star Trek homage and a flood of Family Guy-style jokes. That being said, I quickly grew to love the mix. Even more interesting to me was how much the jokes started to fade over time. The Orville stopped being a parody and became a real space story in its own right. When season 3 of The Orville started, the first episode, in which Isaac killed himself, proved that the show wasn’t afraid to break some hearts.

In “Electric Sheep,” Mark Jackson’s character Isaac goes on a very emotional journey. This is made worse by the fact that the Kaylon can’t feel anything. His cold logic led him to decide to end his own life, and I remember watching the episode and feeling like it was from a different show. The rest of season 3 of The Orville returns to a mix of humor, sci-fi, and drama that was present in seasons 1 and 2, though it is never quite the same. In this way, “Electric Sheep” led The Orville down an interesting path that it couldn’t go back from.

“Electric Sheep” Sparked The Orville Season 3’s Shift to “New Horizons”:

New Horizons was added to The Orville’s main sign to show that there had been three years between seasons 2 and 3. It had only been a year since the last season, so MacFarlane and his team of writers thought that couldn’t be put off. It wouldn’t have been necessary to change the title if the show had just gone back to how it was before. So, “Electric Sheep” started a new era for The Orville by doing something very different, which was another reason for the new name.

The Orville Season 4 Has It Been Cancelled?

This space-themed show started on FOX in the fall of 2017 and, surprisingly, did pretty well in the ratings, especially when delayed watching was taken into account. At first glance, it looked like a parody of Star Trek, but it was really a tribute to the Next Generation, DS9, and Voyager era of Trek with a good amount of humor. Fans of those shows liked the Seth McFarlane show better than Star Trek: Discovery, which debuted on Paramount+ (then called CBS All Access) around the same time. They thought it was more true to the character. The Orville was picked up for a second season, which started in December 2018. However, the tone of the show seemed to change, with more comedic and sitcom-style stories. This may have been done at the network’s request. The number of people who watched the show on the same day went down in its second year, but the number of people who watched it later or digitally continued to rise. In May 2019, FOX renewed the show for a third season. However, that was also the same month that Disney bought out Fox Entertainment, so it wasn’t clear where the show would end up.

It was revealed that The Orville would be on Hulu, a streaming service owned by Disney. The show’s budget was raised for its third season, but it didn’t start airing until the summer of 2022. Fans and reviewers liked it when it came back (it has a 100% Fresh Rating and an 84% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes right now), but it didn’t make it into the Nielsen Streaming Rankings. After that, the show was added to Disney+, but it never made it to the top of the Nielsen ratings, which made the The Orville Season 4uncertain.

The Orville Season 4 Can the Fans Help the Show?

It’s possible that work is already underway on The Orville Season 4, but fans can speed things up and maybe even get the Mouse House to confirm the show’s status. As of now, over 32,000 people have signed an internet petition in support of the show, and fans have also made the case for it on social media. They should get back to those activities and also start holding watch parties to get more people to watch so that it can move up in the Nielsen Streaming rankings. Also, they should try to get people to sign up for Hulu or Disney+ to watch the show and buy the first three seasons on demand. The last two moves will have an effect on the bottom line and will make Disney executives pay attention.

There could be a lot more experiences on The Orville, and it could even grow into a huge franchise like Star Trek. Seth MacFarlane definitely wants to come back to the show. A lot of fans are also looking forward to The Orville Season 4. Now is the time to push for it, before the people in charge at the Mouse House get sidetracked by something else that looks good and give up on the project.

I don’t know that there’s going to be The Orville Season 4:

Right now Palicki is in the press for her new movie, The Salamander King. But reporters like to sneak in a question or two about an actor’s other projects when they can. MovieWeb talked to Palicki at the Dallas International Film Festival and asked if she would be back for The Orville Season 4. The news source says she seemed careful about how she worded her answer. “That would be a conversation, if that was going to be a thing,” she said.

“You know, right before the strikes, that was definitely a conversation that Seth and I had,” Palicki said. “He called me and asked if I would do it. I thought about it, and then the strikes happened.” It went away without a trace. While I understand that many people are upset, I don’t think there will be The Orville Season 4 at this time.

Yes, disappointed is the right word for how I feel about this news, but I wouldn’t say it’s completely surprising either. There is less chance that a show will come back after being on ice for a long time. We haven’t seen new episodes of The Orville Season 4: New Horizons since its premiere almost three years ago. New episodes probably wouldn’t come out until 2027, even if shooting started tomorrow. It’s not quick, easy, or cheap to make spaceships and starscapes that look amazing.

The good news is that New Horizons was still a great season of TV that ended perfectly. Even though it left things open for the future, it was a great way to end The Orville Season 4, if that’s how things go. It might be time to watch it again.
