Elon Musk doesn’t like that Paris Hilton took ads for her kitchenware business off of X, which used to be Twitter.
11:11 at Hilton’s The media recently stopped putting ads on Musk’s troubled social media site after he supported an anti-Semitic tweet. Musk spoke out about her choice after hearing that she had quit advertising her line of “Be an Icon” kitchenware. “To be honest, the ad campaign wasn’t very convincing,” the 52-year-old founder of SpaceX wrote in response to a tweet that showed a skewed picture of Hilton wearing a “Stop Being Poor” T-shirt. He also said, “I don’t think Paris cooks a lot.”
In October, X’s CEO Linda Yaccarino welcomed Hilton as an advertiser. Hilton is the host of the Netflix food show food with Paris. She wrote, “We’re excited to start working with you and your next-generation media company 11:11.” “Together we’re going to create a launchpad for new initiatives in video and live video, live commerce, Spaces, and so much more.”
Before the month ended, 11:11 Media COO Bruce Gersh confirmed that the company “made the decision to immediately pull the campaign from the platform” after Musk’s controversial tweet.
CNN said Musk replied to a post that said Jewish groups “have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they say they want people to stop using against them.” The post also talked about another big anti-Semitic lie about “hordes of minorities” coming to the West. After seeing the tweet, Musk responded, “You told the truth.”
Musk said sorry for what he called his “dumbest” tweet last month, but he also criticized ads who left X because of the rise of anti-Semitism on the platform. “I don’t want them to advertise,” he told CNN. “If someone wants to use money or ads to threaten me, go fuck yourself.” Fuck off. By yourself. Does that make sense? To Bob Iger, if you’re here, I want you to know how I feel.
Fox is one of the big sponsors that has left X. Bob Iger, the CEO of the company, talked about the choice at the DealBook Summit. Musk told advertisers to “go fuck” themselves. It was reported that Iger said, “I have a lot of respect for Elon and what he has done.” If you look at what Musk said in public, it’s clear that Disney’s relationship with the social media site is “not necessarily a positive one for us,” Iger said.
