For an extra monthly fee, streaming service users will be able to choose a version without ads.
Beginning in the new year, Amazon Prime Video users will see that the streaming service now has ads.
After saying in September that “Prime Video shows and films will include limited advertisements,” Amazon has now set 29 January as the start date for the change. For an extra $2.99 a month, users will be able to get a choice without ads. Amazon has started taking pre-registrations for this service.
“This will let us keep putting money into interesting content and keep putting more money into it over time.” “We want to have significantly fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers,” the company says in an email to members and on their user account.
Ads will not be shown on material that is rented or bought after the change.
As well as the U.S., Amazon also wants to show ads to its customers in the U.K., Germany, and Canada. A previous press release said that users in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia can expect the change to happen later in the new year. The release also said that Amazon does not plan to change the price of Prime membership at this time.
Right now, people can get Prime Video with either a separate $8.99-a-month contract or an Amazon Prime account, which costs $14.99-a-month or $139-a-year.
Prime Video has a lot of original shows, like Swarm, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and The Terminal List.
In its last news release, Amazon said that the company has continued to put a lot of money into Prime Video.
“Amazon Prime Video has a huge library of films, TV shows, and live events, including Amazon Originals. This was the biggest year ever for Amazon MGM Studios, with 68 nominations for Primetime Emmy Awards. The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, a show that has been praised by critics and fans alike, received 80 nominations, making it the most-nominated streaming comedy of all time, the company said.
Netflix also changed its streaming service earlier this year. Now, users have to pay an extra $7.99 a month if they want to share their account with people who are not in the same home.
There was a change in May, and the company said in a blog post that they know viewers “have many entertainment choices.”
