YA LGBTQ+ author Alice Oseman’s popular book series Heartstopper has been turned into a Netflix show, which has made rom-com fans very happy. The romance show started in 2022 and just got its season 3 out in the fall of 2024 to keep telling our favorite teen love stories.
Season 3 had all of the show’s usual dreamy charm. It showed the next part of Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson’s (Kit Connor) relationship and also talked about serious real-life issues like mental health, eating disorders, and first sexual experiences. It also showed asexuality and aromanticism in a more nuanced way. If you add in an appearance from Viscount Anthony Bridgerton (played by actor Jonathan Bailey), you have TVthat you can’t miss.
A huge number of fans quickly watched all eight episodes in one sitting and have been clamoring for news of a season 2. It wasn’t clear for a long time if Heartstopper season 4 would happen or not. Meet the Cast of Heartstopper Season 4:
Joe Locke (Charlie) and Kit Connor (Nick), who played the lead parts in the first Heartstopper season 4, will return to play them in the second one. They will also be in charge of producing.
It’s still not clear who else from the main cast will be back for the movie. It looks like Yasmin Finney (Elle), William Gao (Tao), Corinna Brown (Tara), Kizzy Edgell (Darcy), Tobie Donovan (Isaac), Rhea Norwood (Imogen), Jenny Walser (Tori), Cormac Hyde-Corrin (Harry), and Darragh Hand (Michael) will all be there. Olivia Colman played Nick’s mother Sarah in seasons 1 and 2, but she had to miss season 3 because of other commitments. Hopefully, she will have at least an appearance.
Why Did Netflix Cancel Heartstopper Season 4?
In April 2025, after months of waiting for news, it was reported that would not be coming back for a Heartstopper season 4. Instead, the story will end with a movie.
The last movie is set to shoot this summer, and Alice Oseman is adapting it from the sixth book in her visual novel series that is coming out soon.
When the news came out, Oseman said in a statement, “I am absolutely thrilled that we will be able to finish the Heartstopper story.”
“I’m so thankful to everyone who worked hard to make this happen and to Heartstopper fans for being so patient and dedicated.” I can’t wait for the amazing ending to this story.”
In February 2025, Oseman told fans that she and the team were “working very hard” to make more shows.
“We don’t have a final answer yet because it’s still going on,” she told the crowd at Waterstones Children’s Book Festival. “But there are so many people working really hard behind the scenes to make it happen.”
Following Oseman’s words, “We’re feeling hopeful and optimistic, and we hope to be able to share some news about that soon.” Hope all goes well. Thank you very much for seeing!”
In an interview with Deadline, the author first hinted at a movie as the ending, saying that Heartstopper would only need one more scene – “whatever it could be” – to finish the version.
Over and over again, Oseman told that she “would love to tell the end of the story in TV form” and that she’ll “let fans know” as soon as there are any new details.
Oseman told in 2022 that the season 4, which is now a movie, might be the last one.
“It would probably be four seasons to cover the full story,” she said. “I haven’t done any in-detail planning or anything, but it’s quite easy to divide up the books into seasons, so four I think would do it.”

Said that the movie will be based on Oseman’s next Heatstopper comic book, which will be the sixth and final book in the series. The official plot summary says that it “will wrap up Nick and Charlie’s journey,” but things might not go as planned. “As Nick gets ready to go to college and Charlie learns to be independent at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship starts to weigh on them,” the teaser says. There are doubts, and their relationship faces the biggest test it has ever had.
The main characters’ best friends will also be important in the movie, but we don’t know who else will be in it. The logline says “Nick and Charlie’s friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on.”
