It’s possible for a show to go on for too long, no matter how popular or good it is. This is something that Quinta Brunson, the creator and star of Abbot Elementary season 3, is aware of. She recently hinted at the end of the show that she has started looking for the next big thing in her career. “I like to play against type all the time.” “I think that’s every actor’s dream,” the actress said in a recent interview about her job path. I’m a “Janine” and a “teacher” type right now. “That makes me want to get away from it for a while,” she said. Brunson also said that the show’s tough shooting schedule was another reason why it might be time to move on. Now that the show has been nominated for several Emmys, Disney executive Craig Erwich talked about Brunson’s words when he talked about the show’s success.
The 2025 Emmy nominations were just released, and it’s no surprise that Abbott Elementary season 3 got some attention in a few different categories. The show has been a hit with both reviewers and viewers since its premiere four years ago, and that doesn’t look like it will change any time soon. The show was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series again this year, making it the only network show to make the cut. One for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy, and the other for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series went to Brunson for the episode “Back to School.” Four nominations were given to the show, with Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James both getting nods for Supporting Actress.
Abbott Elementary Season 3 cast:
Some of your favourite teachers will be back, like Janine, Gregory, Barbara, Ava, Jacob, and Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter). Mr. Johnson, the school’s favourite janitor, will also be back.
There are also a few new regulars in the season 3: On January 29, Deadline said that Benjamin Norris (Never Have I Ever), Kimia Behpoornia (Good Trouble), and Josh Segarra (The Other Two) would be playing “good-natured Philadelphia school district representatives who aim to bring fresh perspectives to their roles as school ambassadors.”
Before, the show’s huge popularity brought a lot of famous people to Abbott in Season 2. Leslie Odom Jr. played an Abbott Elementary season 3 graduate who wanted to turn Abbott into a public school. Her mom, Vanetta (played by Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson), and her sister, Ayesha (played by Emmy winner Ayo Edebiri), were introduced in the season. Martin Eddie, Gregory’s dad, has been played by Orlando Jones in Seasons 1 and 2. We don’t know yet if any of those guest stars will be back for the new season.
Abbott Elementary Season 3 production:
Because of the writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023, a lot of shows that were supposed to start in the autumn didn’t. One of those shows was Abbott Elementary season 3. Singer Sheryl Lee Ralph says that the writers were meant to start working on Season 3 on May 3, 2023, but that was two days after the Writers Guild of America strike started. Nothing was written for the new season during the 146-day strike. In September, Brunson and the other producers of Abbott Elementary made news when they set up a strike fund to help the show’s 152-person crew during the work stoppage.
After the strike finished on September 27, rumours started to spread about when Hollywoodwriters might be able to go back to work. Deadline said on September 29 that Abbott Elementary season 3 writing room would start up again the week of October 2.
According to Deadline, shooting for Season 3 began in late November, after the actors’ strike ended.
