For the last season of The Handmaid’s Tale, all of the main actors were back. Elisabeth Moss played June Osborne, and O-T Fagbenle played her husband Luke. Max Minghella is also back as June’s ex-boyfriend Nick, so the love triangle is still going strong. Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford, Samira Wiley as Moira, and Madeline Brewer as Janine are some of the other stars who are coming back.
Some of the original cast members didn’t make it back, which is a shame. For example, Joseph Fiennes, who played Commander Waterford, was brutally killed in the season 4 end, didn’t come back. Even though Alexis Bledel said she was leaving the show before the season 5, she was still written out.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 Plot Explained:
The plot is still a secret, but Miller, the show’s creator, and members of the main group have given fans hints about what to expect.
In an interview with Digital Spy in November 2022, Miller talked about how upset she was that the book ended so quickly and how she wanted to keep the story going.
“Everyone asks, ‘Who do you think you are writing more?'” “Oh my God, writing the rest is all I’ve ever wanted to do,” I thought. Because it makes you wonder, “What the hell happened?! “Oh my God, that’s the worst ending ever,” he told the news source.
Miller also said that the show will end on their “own terms.”
“Because of how the business is set up, we never get that,” he said. “However, what’s more important is that not everyone would give it to the audience.”
For example, Moss suggested on an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast in May 2024 that the relationship between June and Serena will get more complicated.
“I was the first person to say, ‘Forget June. Let’s pay attention to Serena this episode.'” “There’s no Serena without June, and there’s no June without Serena,” Yvonne Strahovski said it so well. That’s really true. So, I love the part of the show where the stories are tied together so much. In this case, I agree with the people 100%.
Moss has also made it clear that the final season will be made with fans in mind, with the goal of making long-time watchers happy who have watched all five seasons.
In May 2024, she told TVLine, “I feel like this season, we’re giving it back to the audience.” “We definitely have our eyes on that, making sure that it’s fun and rewarding for the fans and something that we ourselves would want to watch as show fans.”
At the April 2025 premiere of season 6, Moss talked about how she felt after reading the scripts for the next shows. “Holy crap. “And tears, lots of tears on the last one,” she told the New York Post and other reporters.
