Swami Vivekananda brought yoga to wealthy people in Europe and the US in the 20th century, long before it became famous in the west. It is thought to be the oldest form of exercise, but it also works on your mental and spiritual health, so it’s much more than just a workout plan. There are now a lot of different versions of the same idea popular, such as power yoga, which has made exercise easier and more like exercise. Some people find that the spiritual parts of exercise are too much to handle, but the movements are great for your body.
If you don’t have time to meditate for hours or fast for a week, this is a fair step to take. However, if you work from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday, it will not work out. Lots of people say that yoga is what keeps them sane. They look forward to classes in the evening and retreats on the weekends, where they can enjoy the peace that comes with practicing and appreciating this old art.
Types Of Yoga
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali were written around 400 BCE. They were based on a collection of organized knowledge and traditions that are thought to have started around 3000 BCE. Patanjali meant for these patterns to connect people to God by tying together the physical, mental, and spiritual parts of your life through meditation and exercise.
Yoga Asana
The eight limbs of yoga, according to Patanjali, are Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. These limbs are literally translated as abstinence, observance, posture, breathing, withdrawal, focus, meditation, and absorption. The poses in this style are known for their fixed stances and controlled breathing.
Hatha
“Force” is what the Sanskrit word Hatha means. According to the Dattatreya Yoga Sastra, Hatha has two types. The first is made up of the eight parts of Ashtanga as practiced by Yajnavalkya. The second is made up of eight mudras as practiced by Kapila. Many of the poses in this style can be found in tantric art, some of which dates back to the 9th and 11th centuries BCE.
Bikram
Bikram Choudhury created this hot yoga method, which became famous in the 1970s. It includes a set sequence of 26 poses and two breathing exercises done in a room heated to 105°F and 40% humid to make it feel like India.
Vinyasa Flow
In Sanskrit, it literally means “movement.” In the 1940s, Pattabhi Jois developed Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as a way to do yoga as exercise. It is often thought of as the most modern form of classical yoga. A very active style that connects the poses with smooth, flowing moves and breathing that goes with them.
Indra Iyengar
Iyengar yoga is a type of yoga that can be done as an exercise. B.K.S. Iyengar is remembered as one of the best yoga teachers and a big reason why exercise became popular, first in India and then all over the world. 2004: Time magazine called him one of the 100 most important people in the world.
