Just before the holidays, WhatsApp revealed that it had added new video calling features, such as the ability to choose who can join a group video call, better resolution, and a new look for the call tab on the desktop. Meta has taken another step towards making WhatsApp a good alternative to Google Meet or Zoom for both personal and business talks.
You can already call everyone in a group chat because the texting app lets you do that. But sometimes you don’t need or want to call everyone in the group and bother them. Now, the company is adding a feature that will let people choose who can join a group chat. You can use this when you know that only a few people are free to talk or when you want to surprise someone in the group.
WhatsApp is also adding new effects to video calls, such as puppy ears, being submerged in water, and being given a microphone for singing.
The company is updating the desktop app’s call tab to make the buttons to start a call, make a new call link, and call a number stand out more. The company also said that resolution is getting better for both one-on-one and group calls on work and mobile devices.
