Most years, April Fool’s Day is one of the worst days of the year (it’s hard enough to tell the difference between real and fake online, now we have to deal with this?). But not in 2024. Adult Swim made April 1 a little less bad than normal by showing the Smiling Friends Season 2 premiere of the cute animated show along with puppet versions of three episodes from season one.

Gilbert Gottfried, who died in 2016, played God. Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard and David Firth, who made the web series “Salad Fingers,” have also been guest stars. This makes me remember.

As they do every April Fools’ Day (the first episode of Smiling Friends aired on April Fools’ Day 2020 with no warning), Adult Swim shared three episodes from the show’s first season that were redone with puppets (watch the video above). The first episode of Smiling Friends season 2 was also shown on Adult Swim. It was called “Gwimbly: Definitive Remastered Enhanced Extended Edition DX 4k (Anniversary Director’s Cut)”.
In that episode, the Smiling Friends help a video game character who is having a bad time. In later shows of season 2, the group will help fix “a troubled marriage” and even “the president of the United States.” A quote from co-creators and stars of the show Michael Cusack (YOLO: Crystal Fantasy) and Zach Hadel (Hellbenders) says that the new season will be “SOOOOO COOL AND FUN.”
Storyline of Smiling Friends Season 2:
The characters in Smiling Friends work for a company and try to make people happy. Pim (voiced by co-creator Michael Cusack) and Charlie (voiced by co-creator Zach Hadel) are two examples. The second season of Adult Swim says that Zongo, Allan, Glep, Pim and Charlie “continue their mission to bring happiness to the world, whether it’s a washed-up retro video game character, a troubled marriage, or even the president of the United States.” They said in a statement that Smiling Friends Season 2 is “GOING TO BE SOOOOO COOL AND FUN AND HOPE YOU WATCHoooooooo!!”
