He was best known for his Oscar-nominated part in the 1970 romance Love Story. His son said that Ryan O’Neal died at the age of 82.

O’Neal was found to have had chronic leukaemia in 2001 and prostate cancer in 2012. His family did not say what caused his death.

He was also in the hits films What’s Up, Doc?, Paper Moon, and A Bridge Too Far in the 1970s.

He told his son that his dad was “a Hollywood legend.” End of sentence.”

On Friday, Patrick O’Neal wrote on Instagram, “My dad died peacefully today, with his loving team by his side”.

He also said that his dad had always been his hero.

Obituary: Ryan O’Neal O’Neal’s rugged good looks made him famous in the tearjerker Love Story, which he got from a TV soap opera. Ali MacGraw played a student from the working class who falls in love with a Harvard student from the upper class played by him.

The American Film Institute says that the movie is one of the ten most beautiful ever made.

He then starred with Barbra Streisand in the screwball comedy What’s Up, Doc? in 1972. He worked with her again in 1979’s “The Main Event.”

Streisand wrote on X, which used to be Twitter, “So sad to hear the news of Ryan O’Neal’s death.”

“He was funny and charming, and he will be remembered,” she said.

In the 1973 road comedy-drama Paper Moon, he played a con artist during the Great Depression. His nine-year-old daughter Tatum O’Neal won an Oscar for her outstanding supporting performance.

O’Neal was also in A Bridge Too Far (1977), a war drama with an all-star cast, and Stanley Kubrick’s much-anticipated follow-up to A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon (1975).

But by the end of the 1970s, he was no longer a big star. His chaotic personal life was the only thing that kept him in the news.

His mother was a stage actor and his father wrote books and movies. He was born in Los Angeles in 1941.

O’Neal started fighting in school and got in great shape before getting small parts on TV shows.

He was cast in Peyton Place, which is known as the first prime-time soap show in the United States. He became well-known for that part, and like his co-star Mia Farrow, he was able to move on to the big screen.

He was married twice. The first time was to American actress Joanna Moore, with whom he had two children, Tatum and Patrick. The second time was to Emmy-winning actor Leigh Taylor-Young.

But O’Neal was also famous for his troubled relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett that lasted for a long time. From 1979 to 1997, and again from 2001 until Fawcett’s death in 2009, they were together.

In an interview with Piers Morgan in 2011, O’Neal said that seeing his movie Love Story again “worries me.”

“I lost Farrah to cancer, and I just wonder [why] that played out that way for me,” said O’Neal.

He said that his dad was “skilled at his craft, worked so hard, and just loved acting plain and simple” in a tribute to him.

“As a human being, my father was as generous as they come,” he told me. “And the funniest person in the room.” And, without a doubt, the most attractive and charming. “Lethal combination.”

Patrick also said nice things about Fawcett, who was with his dad for a long time.

“Now they’re back together. Cathy and Ryan. He’s really missed her. What a warm hug that must be. “Back together again.”
