The India-based company Jio has teamed up with the Taiwanese fabless semiconductor giant MediaTek to make digital dashboards for the electric scooter market, which is growing quickly.
The relationship was announced Thursday at an event for the business world in New Delhi. It will bring MediaTek chips, an Android-based operating system, and hardware made by Jio to electric scooters in India and maybe even other emerging markets. The information shown to the driver is run by AvniOS, which is built on Android, and is powered by MediaTek MT8766 and MT8768 system-on-chips.
The deal could be good for both of the big companies. Indian, which has one of the biggest two-wheeler markets in the world, wants all of its two-wheeler sales to come from electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030.
Jio wants to make more money from the relationship by selling 4G plans to people who own cars and providing extra services like cloud and mapping solutions. The phone company could also make money from the data it gets from its 4G modules and groups over time.
It has been working on its two-wheeler clusters since at least last year, according to Parhlo World. Jio Things is a branch of Reliance Industries’ Jio Platforms that makes IoT products for the telecom giant. Based on Android, the company has a team in Bengaluru that has been working on its EV operating system for the past few months.
The cluster operating system has voice recognition, real-time data analytics, and customizable interfaces. It also works with car controllers and comes with an IoT-enabled charging infrastructure and a battery management system that is already set up. It also comes with a Jio Automotive App Suite that gives you access to services provided by the Indian telecom giant, including Jio Voice Assistant for voice help, JioSaavn for music streaming, JioPages for web browsing, and JioXploR for geolocation and mapping.

It’s been a while since MediaTek and Jio worked together. The chipmaker gives the telecom system-on-chips for routers that run JioFiber and Jio AirFiber, its optical fiber-based broadband services. In the same way, MediaTek runs Jio’s set-top boxes.
Jio thinks that EVs, especially electric two-wheelers, which are becoming more popular, could grow. India is almost at the point where a million electric two-wheelers are sold every year. Electric two-wheelers are also expected to have a market share of over 45% in the country by 2030, up from 5% now.
However, Jio seems to have goals that go beyond two-wheelers. Two people familiar with the matter told Parhlo World that the company has also been in talks with a number of parties, including a few Indian automakers, to combine its clusters and OS.

It is said that Jio will split off from Reliance Industries and go public with a value of a huge $112 billion. In the meantime, it is quietlygrowing its presence in the car market. The company released an onboard diagnostics device with an eSIM last year to help owners of four-wheelers use the JioThings app to keep track of and fix their cars. The business also has a smart EV charging suite that includes both hardware and software to help businesses and housing associations make their charging facilities fit their needs.
