Spotify has raised the price of its services for people in the U.S. This is the second time in a year that the prices have gone up.
The big music streaming service says that premium prices will go up from $10.99 to $11.99 in July, which is a rise of almost 10%. Prices for the Duo and Family plans will go up by $2 and $3, respectively, to $16.99 and $19.99 per month. The price for the student plan will stay the same at $5.99 per month.
Spotify recently reported a 20% rise in income, a 14% rise in premium subscribers, and a record quarterly profit. This comes at a time when the company seems to be in pretty good health. But with these new prices, it’s now more affordable than its big competitor Apple, which still charges $10.99 for an individual plan and $16.99 for a family plan (for now).
The price rise comes after Spotify announced a bunch of price hikes around the world in July. For example, in the U.S., the ad-free individual premium plan went from $9.99 per month to $10.99 per month, and so did the Duo, Family, and Student plans.
As of next month, Spotify said that premium subscribers will start getting emails about the price increase. However, it’s not clear who the price rise will actually affect. At first glance, it looks like all premium members will get the email about the price increase, but then it says that the new prices will only apply to “new subscribers.”
