After making Google Lens to make it easier for people to shop online, the company is now improving it to help people shop in stores by giving them information about products, comparing prices, and seeing what’s in stock nearby. Along with this news, the company is also adding more shopping features to Maps and more ways to pay with Google Pay before the holiday shopping season.

The changes to Google Lens add to what Google is already doing through its Google Shopping business. It’s thought that people should also be able to make similar well-informed shopping choices in real life. Google Lens, the company’s visual search tool, can help them do that more easily

When you’re at Target and see a toy that interests you, you can use Google Lens to take a photo of it and see reviews and similar items that are in stock at that store. You can also check to see if the toy costs less at another store, like Walmart or Amazon.

Google says that the new feature is made possible by Shopping Graph’s 45 billion product entries and its Gemini models.

Lilian Rincon, Google’s VP of Consumer Shopping Product, told Parhlo World, “We’re releasing a new tool that changes how people shop in real stores by using AI to take the guesswork out of shopping in real stores.” “There’s something magical about shopping in person during the holidays, but we also know how important it is to read reviews, compare prices, and do research before we buy.”

The first things you’ll be able to use the feature for are toys, electronics, and beauty items at shops that let Google see their local stock. At the moment, these stores include Macy’s, Nordstrom, Target, Ulta Beauty, Sally Beauty Supply, and more.

Rincon said, “We know that people really like using Lens.” Lens is used for almost 20 billion visual searches every month, and 20% of those searches are for things to buy. That’s why we’re excited to sell this. Some of that important information is given to make shoppers feel better.

Starting today, U.S. users who have agreed to share their location can get the tool in the Google and Chrome apps for Android and iOS (see here, here, here, and here).

As for the new features in Maps, Google says that users will soon be able to use the app to look for products and find stores close that sell them. You can look for “holiday sweater” to find out what kinds of sweaters stores near you have right now.

You can look for things for your home, technology, clothes, and food. People in the U.S. will be able to use the new Maps tool soon.

Google is also adding more “buy now, pay later” options to Google Pay. Earlier this year, Affirm and Zip were the only ones added. Users can now choose to use Afterpay when they check out with Google Pay. Soon, users will also be able to use Klarna.

Also, Google is about to start testing a service that will help businesses spot fraudulent transactions more easily. The business says the service will help clear the way for real deals that might be mistaken for fraud.
