Dog Gun It
Agence France-Presse reports that the Chinese military recently showed off a bunch of robot dogs with machine guns on their backs during the country’s biggest-ever drill with Cambodian troops.
The scary robodogs with guns were part of “Golden Dragon,” a huge 15-day military drill that took place in a remote training center in central Cambodia and off the coast of the country.
People from the press watched as staff walked the robodogs during the drill. The machine guns that were attached to their backs were apparently never fired.
This is a scary picture of how war might look in the future. Since a long time ago, professionals have said that using armed drones or “killer robots,” especially ones that can operate on their own, is unethical and should be banned from all battlefields around the world.
That hasn’t stopped the US military or even local police from investing in the technology, though. They say it could save lives.
Follow the Leader
It’s not the first time we’ve seen robots with four legs and guns. The Pentagon said last year that the US Army is thinking about giving remote-controlled robot dogs high-tech rifles as part of its plan to “explore the realm of the possible” in the future of war.
A US-based company called Ghost Robotics, which works with the military, has already shown off a robot dog with a long-range gun.
The famous Boston Dynamics Spot Mini robot dog, on the other hand, has been told over and over again that attaching weapons to it is against its terms of service.

“We pledge that we will not weaponize our advanced-mobility general-purpose robots or the software we develop that enables advanced robotics and we will not support others to do so,” the company said in a letter.
