So far, social network X has only let its paid users use Grok, an AI robot made by Elon Musk’s other company, xAI. But it looks like the platform is getting ready to let free people use the chatbot.
This past weekend, a number of app experts and users wrote that people in certain areas could get a free version of Grok.
Parhlo World has confirmed that X is trying some way for free users in New Zealand to get to Grok.
A expert who goes by the name Swak on X says that for now there are limits on how it can be used: For the Grok-2 model, there are 10 queries every two hours. For the Grok-2 mini model, there are 20 queries every two hours. And there are three picture analysis questions every day.
You can use Grok for free if you have an account that is at least seven days old and is linked to a phone number.
Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 model was used to help xAI release Grok-2 in August, which can create images. The company also made the model able to understand pictures at the end of last month.
Up until now, only Premium and Premium+ users could use all of these tools. By letting anyone use Grok for free, xAI may be trying to get more people to use its products and get comments on them more quickly so that it can compete with models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.

According to a story in The Wall Street Journal last month, xAI was in talks to raise several billion dollars at a value of $40 billion.
