As the first update of the year, Telegram has added a new way to verify your account that is driven by a third party. It also has added new message search filters and the option to turn gifts into NFTs.
The chat app already had a way to verify accounts of public figures and organizations. Now, it has started a new project that lets third-party authorities, like food safety regulators or educational consortiums, check an account after it has already been verified by a public figure or organization.
When a third party verifies an account, there will be a new logo next to the name of the account instead of a blue cross.
In a blog post, Telegram said, “This decentralized platform for extra verification will help stop scams and filter out false information—with a unique proactive solution that sets a new safety standard for social platforms.”
Anyone or any group that wants to be verified will have to go through the verification process and fill out an application before they can get the confirmed mark. Telegram said that entities can use its Bot API to add or remove verification. This is similar to how entities can buy verification on X and prove their affiliated accounts. As soon as these accounts are verified, the organization’s logo will show up on their page.
Along with that, Telegram added a way to turn gifts into NFTs with unique backgrounds and icons. When users connect their TON crypto wallet to the Fragment site, they can buy Telegram Stars, which can then be used to give gifts.
There will be different places where Telegram users can trade these NFTs, the company said. To cover the costs of blockchain transactions, Telegram users are charged to turn their gifts into coins.
To help creators make money and to pay for games and mini-apps on the Telegram platform, cryptocurrencies have been used.

You can now respond with an emoji in service messages when someone joins a group, and the company has also added new search filters for private talks, group chats, and channels.
