Fans of Good Omens who are waiting for the last season have bad news about Season 3. Reports say that work on the season has been put on hold while work continues in Scotland. This makes the future of the show uncertain.
Daily News says that work has stopped on the project while “discussions about possible production changes” take place. It’s not clear what these changes might be because an Amazon representative wouldn’t say anything about the story. The story comes after it was announced that Disney had cancelled plans to make a movie based on Neil Gaiman’s 2008 book The Graveyard Book. In that case, it was said that the movie might still be made in the future. As for Good Omens, the show is only said to be on hold at this point, but some fans may still be worried that the season could be cancelled altogether.
We don’t know for sure what stopped Good Omens Season 3 until Amazon says so, but it’s possible that it has something to do with the latest accusations against Gaiman. Four women accused the author of The Sandman of sexual misbehaviour in a podcast series called Master: The Allegations against Neil Gaiman, which came out earlier this summer from Tortoise Media. According to Gaiman’s public statement, the accusations were false and he was “disturbed” by them.
What is the Release Date for Good Omens Season 3?
As of this writing, there was still no date set for when Good Omens Season 3 would start for Amazon Prime members. There were just over four years between the first and second seasons of Good Omens, but that doesn’t mean that Good Omens Season 3 can’t come out before 2027. While Season 2 did come out before the WGA writers’ strike and the SAG-AFTRA actors strike in 2023, the entertainment business as a whole was pretty much shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The last season might come out after a shorter break this time, unless there are major delays. In December, Amazon Prime Video picked up Good Omens for a third season.
Good Omens Season 3 – What’s in Store for Fans?
In the sad ending of Season 2, Crowley and Aziraphale’s story came to an end. Aziraphale chose to take Gabriel’s place in Heaven and change it the way he wanted, which was to make Crowley an angel again so that he could work with him. Crowley, for his part, said no right away and chose to stay on Earth as a devil. Even though he tried one last big thing by kissing Aziraphale, they split ways. Metatron says that the Second Coming is already a big job for Aziraphale to work on in Heaven.
There’s a good chance that Good Omens’ version of the Second Coming doesn’t quite match up with the Bible story, but Metatron didn’t give away any big spoilers. Also, Jesus Christ made a cameo in Season 1 when both Crowley and Aziraphale were present at his crucifixion.
When Good Omens Season 3 was renewed, Neil Gaiman gave more information about what will happen next than Metatron did. He said that Crowley and Aziraphale will “deal once more with the end of the world.” “Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to set it right,” said the co-author of the book and co-showrunner of the Prime Video series. They don’t say anything.”
The Main Cast for Good Omens Season 3:
We don’t know much about the cast of Good Omens Season 3, but David Tennant and Michael Sheen will definitely be back to play Crowley and Aziraphale twice more. Sheen even shared a picture of socks in Aziraphale’s famous plaid on social media this summer, which fans loved:
Season 2 finished with Heaven and the bookshop in a state of chaos. It looks like Derek Jacobi will be back as Metatron and Quelin Sepulveda will be back as Muriel. In the first two seasons, Gabriel and Beelzebub were important characters. However, the way they were written out for a happy ending in Season 2 may mean that Jon Hamm and Shelley Conn won’t make the cut.
Nina Sosanya and Maggie Service were both in the first two seasons, but they each played a different role. The rest of the cast and crew haven’t said whether they’ll be back for Good Omens Season 3.
Good Omens Season 3 Production Delayed Until September 2024:
The Good Omens season 3 was already being made during the summer, but work stopped in early September. At the time, Deadline said that talks were going on about possible changes to the production, but an official spokesman didn’t say anything about it.
When the news of the production stop came out, Neil Gaiman was already in a lot of trouble because he is being accused of sexual abuse. Gaiman has denied the claims, and it is said that the choice to stop working on Good Omens was based on a number of reasons.
For Good Omens Season 3, there was already a big change in the cast and crew. Executive director and co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon said on Instagram that he had “moved on front Good Omens” and had “no information regarding the status of [Season] 3.”
Neil Gaiman Proposes Resignation Following Misconduct Claims
After hearing that work on Good Omens Season 3 had stopped a few days ago, Deadline claims that Neil Gaiman offered to leave Good Omens. He wrote the original book with the late Terry Pratchett, wrote or co-wrote every episode of the first two seasons, and was the director and executive producer. This would be a big change.
The news source says Gaiman offered to quit to Amazon and other show creators so that work could continue instead of being put on hold. Reports say that the author, EP, and co-showrunner’s offer does not mean that they are guilty of the sexual attack claims.
In early September, it was said that Amazon was thinking about the deal, but they haven’t said anything yet. The show is still in the early stages of planning, and shooting wasn’t supposed to start until January 2025 in Scotland.
Neil Gaiman’s Insights on Good Omens Season 3:
When Good Omens was picked up for a third season in December 2023, making sure that the angel and devil would have a future, Neil Gaiman said, “I’m so happy to be able to finally finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1989 and 2006.” Terry was sure that we could finish the story if we made Good Omens for TV. The first season was all about stopping Armageddon, scary predictions, and the End of the World. Season Two was sweet and gentle, but it may not have finished as happily as some Angels and Demons had hoped. We will talk about the end of the world again in Good Omens Season 3. Things are not going as planned for Armageddon. It can only be fixed if Crowley and Aziraphale work together. They don’t talk either.
The renewal news also said that the third and final season will bring to life a talk that Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett had about what would happen next for Crowley and Aziraphale, which took place almost 35 years ago. The “biggest challenge” of adapting the Good Omens book, according to Gaiman, was “the absence of Terry Pratchett from this world.”
Where to Stream Seasons 1 and 2 of Good Omens?
The first two seasons of Good Omens are easy to find and watch again and again. If you have an Amazon Prime Video membership, you can watch both seasons, which each have six shows. If the wait for Season 3 is even half as long as the four years that passed between Seasons 1 and 2, there will be plenty of time to watch again all of Crowley and Aziraphale’s ups and downs.
Since the last season of Good Omens has been put on hold, new episodes of another big Gaiman adaptation will be out soon. The Sandman, a Netflix show, will likely be shown at the upcoming Geeked Week event to give fans a sneak peek at the second season.
