Everyone knows that Taylor Swift is the queen of Easter eggs, and TIME magazine joined in on the fun.
Jane Perkins, an artist from London, was asked to make a portrait of the singer with dozens of secret Easter eggs because she was named TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year.
The shape and colour of the materials used to make the portrait fit with the idea. “I am a re-maker,” Perkins told TIME, “taking inspiration from found objects and working them into something new.”
She also said, “I work with things that have a history. A lot of the time, I work with things that have reached “the end of the line” and that not even charity shops can sell. This includes broken or out-of-style jewellery and things that have been sitting around for a long time.”

The artist also did a lot of study to make sure that each piece meant something.
“I needed a quick crash course in her world.” “I had never heard of Swifties, friendship bracelets, or “meaningful things” from song lyrics before. We sent 75 emails back and forth before I was ready to start,” she said.
The “Karma” singer talked about rerecording her first five albums, which were sold to Scooter Braun in 2019 against her will, in an interview for a cover story. She compared the process to some of Hollywood’s most famous mythical items.
“I’m collecting horcruxes,” she said, referring to her re-releases as the powerful items in the Harry Potter world that wizards could use to live forever.
When talking about re-released albums, the “Cruel Summer” artist also gave a sneak peek at one of her most-anticipated ones, Reputation (Taylor’s Version).
She said of the album’s overall style and message, “It’s a goth-punk moment of female rage at being gaslighted by a whole social structure.”
Then she hinted that the record’s vault tracksāsongs that didn’t make the original album but are on her rerecordingsāare “fire.”
