Narcissists are the masters of manipulation and exploitation. Watch out for these ten statements and if you hear them run in the opposite direction and fast! Otherwise you might find yourself as in a give and give relationship with a person who has a black hole instead of a heart.
“You’ve gotten so healthy!”
Aka you’ve gained weight. Narcissists will throw backhanded compliments at you like confetti. It’s their way of establishing superiority. Next time call them out on their disguised insults.
“I am the reason for this company’s success”
Narcissists take all the credit for the success of the team they are in because in their head they are the most intelligent and innovative person in that group. Even if all they did was spin on the office chair.
“It’s not my fault!”
It is always someone else’s fault. The universe is plotting against this narcissist. The responsibility for the blame is always on someone else. That’s why you should never intern for a narcissist. You’d be fired in a day.
“Does my beard look good like this?”
Narcissists need compliments and validation like a desi wedding needs biryani. Without a constant stream of compliments, they lose their identity. Hence they will fish for compliments all the time.
“You’re so senti!”
So narcissistic people play these mind games to get a reaction out of you. And when they get that reaction they make you feel like you’re being too sensitive. For example they’ll shower you with love and attention for a while and then suddenly act cold. When you call them out on it, they’ll act like you’re the one over analyzing everything.
“What would you do without me?”
Narcissists thrive off making people feel dependent of them because that gives them a feeling of superiority. They’ll say these kinds of things to make you feel like you need them in your life. You don’t.
“You’ll never believe what they said about you!”
Narcissists will tell you horrible things people are supposedly saying about you. They will twist the words of others to make them into insults. This is to isolate you and to make you more dependent on them.
“I only got 100 likes on my picture.”
Appearances and popularity are everything to a narcissist. They might even ask you to like their posts.
“Forgive and forget.”
Narcissists live in their own reality, a reality in which they do not have any faults. Hence any criticism has no place in a narcissists world. They will use this statement when you bring up past mistakes of theirs in an effort to erase them and maintain their illusion of perfection.
“All my exes are crazy.”
Narcissists drive people away and do hurtful things. Therefore they have a long list of ex-besties and exes. But they will never accept their own fault in the demise of these relationships, choosing instead to call the others crazy.
If someone in you life says these sorts of things a lot, perhaps they are a narcissist. Our recommendation would be to replace this person immediately. Replace them with a non-narcissistic person, a puppy, or even an ice-cream carton. In this June heat, you don’t want a narcissist burning you with insults as well as the sun.
