“I hope she’ll be a fool — that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald
We all have these amazing female friends that are the full package. They’re gorgeous, funny, kind and smart. Yet they are single, and it’s not for a lack of trying. It’s possible that a woman’s intelligence might hinder her chances of finding a man. According to a new study from Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, the more intelligent a woman is, the more likely it is that she is single.
These are possible reasons why smart women have a harder time finding a man.
1. Men Are Easily Intimidated
In fact, a study done by the University of Buffalo found that when a woman outperformed a man in a test, he rated her as less desirable.
A women’s intelligence might scare off average men. But don’t despair, it’s a no-effort way of weeding out the dumb ones!
2. Smart Women Are Picky
Smart women tend to have high standards when it comes to romantic partners. For this reason, the majority of men don’t make the cut, leaving smart women from a smaller pool to choose from.
3. They Are Independent
Smart women don’t feel the need to be in a romantic relationship because they know they are whole human beings on their own.
They aren’t looking for someone to complete them, because they are complete. This independence causes smart women to put less effort into looking for a romantic partner.
4. They Have Other Priorities
Smart women have a whole list of the other priorities. Finding a partner is not on top of this list. They have busy lives and are preoccupied with more important things than dating.
Men may also be repelled by this as they want to be a priority in their partner’s life.
5. They’d Rather be Single than in a Bad Relationship
Smart women don’t need to be in a relationship. They enter relationships because they want to. And if the relationship isn’t making a smart women happy, they would rather be single. They are also less tolerant of unhealthy relationships and won’t settle for anything less than what they deserve.
While it seems like the odds are against beauties with brains, don’t worry. You don’t want a man that’s below your standards anyways and who expects him to be the center of your world. Your intelligence won’t stop you from finding love, it’ll just ensure you don’t end up with the wrong guy.
Keep on doing what you do, and living a full, beautiful life. The right guy will come around, eventually.
