The The Boys season 5 is now being made, and it will be the last of Prime Video’s crazy superhero show. Not to worry, though, because that just means the last season will be wilder than ever as Billy Butcher and the rest of the cast say goodbye for good.
We just got our first look at Billy, and shooting for the new shows has already begun. Here is everything you need to know about when The Boys season 5 will come out, who will be in it, what will happen, and so much more. Are you ready for a really bad time?
The Boys has been one of the best TV shows of our time and one of Prime Video’s best shows ever since it came out in 2019. At the same time that Avengers: Endgame was making history at the box office, this adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comics was making a brilliantly off-kilter statement on the world of superheroes, pop culture interests, and power abuse. It’s also totally funny and perfect for making memes.
After leaving off on a cliffhanger at the end of season 4, The Boys season 5 will have to wrap up all the unfinished business, including Homelander and Billy Butcher’s never-ending fight.
We’ve put together this guide to The Boys season 5 with the most recent news, changes, exclusive quotes, and more.
Speculating the Release Date for The Boys Season 5:
At this point, we don’t know when The Boys season 5 will be available. We think the show will come back sometime in 2026, though, based on how previous seasons have gone.
The actor Karl Urban, who plays Butcher, agreed with that too. He said on social media that he’ll see fans in “two years.” So, 2026 it is. It’s going to be a long time, but this great show is worth our time, right?
The eight-episode season is currently being filmed and will continue until the middle of 2025.
At the beginning of December, actor Karl Urban posted an Instagram picture of himself looking like Billy Butcher. He was covered in blood and held up five fingers. On X, the show’s creator, Eric Kripke, shared a picture from behind the scenes with some of the key cast. But that’s all the news we’ve had from the set so far.
In a recent interview, the show’s creator, Eric Kripke, talked about the new season and said, “I live in absolute terror of becoming the thing we’ve been making fun of for five years.”
In The Boys, the music is punk rock, and it hurts even more when punk rock bands give up. He also said, “I’m really trying not to sell out.”
Is The Boys Season 5 the Final Season?
Yes, season 5 of The Boys will be the last episode of the popular superhero show. The Boys’ team has been clear about when the show will come out for years, so this choice is not likely to change.
In an interview with TV Line, director Eric Kripke talked about how they chose Season 5 as the last episode while they were still working on Season 3 of The Boys.
Kripke then told his X fans about the news about season 5, sharing a picture of the last page of The Boys season 4 episode 8. “Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!” His caption said. “Always my plan; I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought.”
The Cast of The Boys Season 5:
The full cast list for The Boys season 5 has not been released yet. But based on what happened in the last episode of season 4 (read our review of The Boys season 4 episode 8 for more juicy details), we have a good idea of who will be back for season 5. Spoilers are coming up!
We talked about how Claudia Domit’s character, Victoria Neuman, won’t be coming back in our guide to The Boys season 4 ending. She died for good. Also, we know that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will not be coming back as Joe Kessler. During the “Dirty Business” episode, Joe died off-screen, and we don’t think he’ll come back to life any time soon either.
But Jensen Ackles will be back as Soldier Boy in The Boys season 5. He made this big reveal at SDCC 2024, and it looks like this return will tell us more about how he feels about his son Homelander. The next time they talk as a father and son, it should be a little less damaging than the last one in season 3, right? Eric Kripke stated that Ackles’ return is all about getting to the bottom of that relationship.
He told us at SDCC, “You know, we realized that we hadn’t really looked into Homelander and Soldier Boy’s relationship as a father and son much.” Why did we want to look deeper into that relationship? Because of how Soldier Boy feels about Homelander and how Homelander feels about his dad.
But along with returned cast members, it looks like a few new people will be joining the show for its last episode as well. In October 2024, Mason Dye, who plays eleven in Stranger Things, was cast as Bombsight, a Supe who doesn’t seem to age. The Supe was talked about in season 4 of The Boys, but we haven’t met him yet.

What to Expect from The Boys Season 5?
We don’t have a story summary for season 5 of The Boys yet, but the end of season 4 gave us a lot of hints about where the show is going. Butcher went a little crazy in the last episode, killing several people and running off with the spy-killing virus.
Thus, it goes without saying that Butcher will be the main bad guy in season 5, since he will do anything to see Homelander die. When we talk about Homelander, we also know that Sage has a plan for the blonde Supe. She is now in “Phase Two” of the plan that got Homelander close to the president in the first place. Since she helped get Martial Law put in place, we’re interested to see what her real goal is for the next season.
All of that is on top of the fact that The Boys season 5 will have to explain where Homelander’s son Ryan is and where A-Train is. In the last episode of The Boys season 4, Frenchie seemed to have been brainwashed, which is another issue that needs to be cleared up. Did we also say that Soldier Boy had been cryogenically frozen in the scene that came after the credits in season 4 of The Boys? Even though we know he will be unfrozen, we still don’t know what that means.
Creator Eric Kripke told GamesRadar+ at SDCC that there was “no guarantee” that any of the returned cast would make it through the final season.
“There’s no guarantee who’s going to survive because you don’t have to keep [the cast] for another season,” he said. “So shocking, big things can happen all the time.” As we start to work on it, the writers are having a great time.
To put it simply, the last entry has a lot to do and a lot at stake. Also, it looks like spin-offs will have to help us figure out some of our problems. Kripke told Variety that Gen V season 2 will happen right after The Boys season 4. This means that we should have a better idea of what plot points will be covered in season 5 after the spin-off airs.
We think that Gen V will also deal with some of the above problems and connections, since season 5 probably won’t be able to cover everything in just eight episodes. This means that Gen V season 2 will have to be watched before The Boys season 5 in order to get the whole picture. That means you should start updating your Amazon Prime memberships right away!
Will Gen V Have Additional Seasons?
Gen V is a spinoff of The Boys, and it was just picked up for a second season, so the story will go on there.
The spinoff is set at Vought International’s only college for young adult superheroes in the United States. It follows the lives of competitive, hormonal Superheroes as they test their sexual, moral, and physical limits to become the best in their school.
Because of the death of star Chance Perdomo, work on the second season of the show has been put off. In a statement, the show’s producers said they would not recast Perdomo’s part as Andre Anderson after his unexpected death in March.
What Other Spinoff Shows Exist in The Boys Universe`?
Jensen Ackles went to the The Boys panel at Comic-Con 2024 on Friday, July 26, to talk about a version of The Boys in which he will play Soldier Boy again and Aya Cash will play Stormfront. An executive producer on The Boys named Paul Grellong will run the new show Vought Rising and be an executive producer on it as well.
There will also be a separate show called The Boys: Mexico. The spinoff will be written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who also wrote Blue Beetle. Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal will be in charge of producing it. Luna and Bernal are also thinking about getting smaller parts in the show. Dunnet-Alcocer is the author, writer, and executive producer of the show. She is now working on the script and is looking for a co-showrunner to help her.
