Euphoria season 3 has come after a long and bumpy road. Fans have been afraid that the hit show was doomed and would end up in development hell because it has been hit with rewrites, delays, and other problems over and over again. New, positive news from the cast, crew, and HBO, on the other hand, says that Euphoria season 3 is on the way.
The HBO show, which was created by Sam Levinson, debuted in 2019 and hit new heights with season 2, which had record-breaking viewing and caused huge conversations on social media about each episode. Fans of the show regularly live-posted the whole second season on X, which used to be called Twitter, to share memes, talk about story points, and come up with ideas. So many people are interested that even X revealed that Euphoria had become the most-tweeted-about TV show of the decade before the season 2 end on February 27, 2022. Fans are already reading everything they can find about Euphoria Season 3, as they should.
So, we looked all over the internet for answers to all of your important questions about Euphoria season 3. Read on to find out everything you need to know.
Reasons Behind the Euphoria Season 3 Delay:
After years of hurdles, work on Euphoria season 3 has finally begun. But why did it take so long to start with? Many much-anticipated TV shows were impacted by the Hollywood strikes, and Euphoria had to deal with extra problems like rewrites, cast availability, and even tragedy. Over the past two and a half years, the production schedule for the show has been a real point of disagreement. Depending on who you asked and when, you got different stories.
In 2022
Before the strikes, fans thought that season 3 might start sometime in 2024. Zendaya said that a show date in 2024 sounded “kind of true” at Euphoria’s For Your Consideration event in Los Angeles in April 2022.
At the time, she said, “I really don’t know.” There are leaders who know more than I do, so you could ask them. I’m going to be busy for a while. While S3 of Euphoria was still uncertain, the actor added three movies to her schedule: Dune: Part Two, Luca Guadagnino’s steamy tennis drama Challengers, and A24’s Ronnie Spector biopic Be My Baby, which is still in the works. (The first two movies were also pushed back because of the strikes in Hollywood.)
In 2023
During the mid-strikes in May 2023, Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO Programming, talked to Deadline about how key HBO shows were coming along in production.
“One of those was Euphoria, which we started writing while post-production on The Idol was going on,” Orsi said. “But right now, we don’t have a lot of scripts.” “Since we can’t start filming yet, the release date of that show—ideally in 2025—will depend on when we can get back in touch with Sam [Levinson], who is wrapped up on Idol at the moment.”
In 2024
We thought that all pencils were back up after the WGA and SAG strikes ended in the fall of 2023. Head of HBO, Casey Bloys, told The Wrap in January 2024 that Levinson was busy writing the third season. But Bloys couldn’t say anything else about what would happen with the show.
“Let’s see what happens.” Bloys said, “He’s writing season 3 right now, he’s in the thick of it.” “So I’m not sure if he’s showing us what the future holds.” It’s just finishing up season 3. He and I haven’t talked about things like “is this the end or what does it look like.”
Colman Domingo, who plays Rue’s backer Ali, talked to GQ in February 2024 and gave a bit more background about the S3 delays. He said that strikes have played a part, but it’s also author Sam Levinson’s fault because he likes to rewrite things. Dominguez told the newspaper, “[Sam] is someone who writes and rewrites and writes and rewrites again because I think he’s wrestling with what’s important.”
“He’s responding right away to what’s wrong with the world,” Domingo said. “The only thing I know for sure is that he’s very interested in the existential question of who we are now.” Our spirits. That’s what he wants season three to do. This seems like a big job, but hey, we’re ready for a treat.
MTV asked Sydney Sweeney, a member of the main group, if she was going to take a break after her busy press run in March 2024. She was pushing her two new movies, Madame Web and Immaculate. Her answer was, “I feel happy.”
When it comes to going back to the Euphoria set, Sweeney said, “I always feel like I go home.” He was excited. It’s like having family there. Even though Sweeney didn’t give a specific date, everyone thought that the change to the HBO show would happen in just a few weeks. But soon after Sweeney’s words, the show was put on extended hiatus.
Variety revealed on March 25, 2024, that season 3 has been pushed back forever and that scripts for the next episode are still being written. A rep for HBO told the newspaper, “HBO and Sam Levinson are still committed to making an amazing third season.”
The representative also said that the show’s stars have very busy schedules, as many of them are working on big movies. “For now, we’re letting our in-demand cast go after other opportunities.” That brings us to our most recent report, which comes almost four months later…

Is Euphoria Season 3 Currently in Production?
The break is over! In a statement released on July 12, HBO said that shooting for season 3 of Euphoria will begin in January 2025. The main cast will all be back.
The Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi, said in a statement to the press, “I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January.” “We’re thrilled to be working on this project with [creator] Sam Levinson and this amazing team… For the fans, we’re excited to bring this new season of Euphoria to life. It sounds almost too good to be true.
Euphoria Season 3 – Air Date Revealed?
In March 2024, Deadline said that Euphoria would be back in 2025, which is “still the goal.” In June, Eric Dane, who plays Nate’s father on the show, Cal Jacobs, seemed to confirm this goal in public.
“We’re looking at 2025,” Dane said on Today with Hoda & Jenna, putting an end to rumors among fans that the show was going to be canceled. “I’m hopeful that it will come straight back.” Plenty of people want to see that show, and it’s just too good to pass up. It was revealed by Deadline a few days after Dane’s interview that the show was shooting “for a 2025 debut.”
Now that production has been confirmed to start again in January 2025, it looks like Euphoria season 3 will come out in 2026 or very late in 2025. This is because, as Deadline reported, they will have to work around the schedules of cast members who are working on other projects since they were given the go-ahead to continue in March.
It’s likely that Euphoria season 3 will have eight episodes, since seasons 1 and 2 both had eight episodes. The special shows with Rue and Jules, called “Trouble Don’t Last Always” and “F*ck Anyone Who Isn’t a Sea Blob,” aired between seasons while COVID-19 was locked down. The spring of 2022 saw beauty writer Kirbie Johnson talk to Euphoria MUA Donni Davy. Davy told Johnson that it takes a whole month to film each episode of the show. That means that work on the next season won’t be finished until at least August 2025.
What Are the Storylines for Euphoria Season 3?
This is the question that everyone wants to know. We both think you’re right. We were left with a lot of questions after the end of season 2, so we hope that at least some of them will be explained in season 3. Rue’s story is based on the director’s own life, so viewers can expect her to remain the main character in future episodes.
Zendaya, who plays the major role and is also an executive producer on the show, talked to The Hollywood Reporter in August 2022 about what she hopes to see in euphoria season 3. Her answers hinted at the supposed time jump in the euphoria season 3.
“I think it will be fun to see the characters after they graduate from high school.” “I want to see how crazy Rue’s journey to sobriety looks,” Zendaya said. Everyone in the book is also trying to figure out what they want to do with their lives after high school and what kind of person they want to be. Another great thing about season 2 was that it let us get to know the other characters better. That sounds like something we could do again with the third season. Because there is so much ability, you want everyone to have the chance to use it.
We’re all for a time jump if Zendaya is. Based on Rue’s speech at the end of season 2, a time jump for season 3 makes perfect sense. Rue talks in the past tense, as if she were speaking to them from the future. The question is, how far in the future?
We might know the answer by April 2023. According to Heidi Bivens, the show’s wardrobe designer, the start of filming for the third season is coming up quickly. She talked to Vogue about this and gave a big update on how big of a jump this time will be.
“I can’t wait to read the scripts!” Bivens said, “There is talk that it takes place about five years from now and that they are no longer in high school.” “Dorothy is no longer in Kansas.” I mean, it could be a real mess. Who knows? But if you know Sam’s mind, it will be fun, and he will push all of us because he won’t want to say the same thing twice. The people who are there will learn something new. Can we picture the East Highland crew in a place other than high school? It might be time to start picturing it now.
Are We Certain About the Time Jump in Euphoria Season 3?
Yes! Almost. In an exclusive interview with Variety on June 11, 2024, Max executives Casey Bloys and JB Perrette only loosely confirmed the time jump in Euphoria season 3. They also said that the time jump is one of many reasons why the show has been delayed so much.
“[The show’s creator and writer] Sam Levinson is working on season 3 of Euphoria right now,” Bloys said. “There’s been a lot of going back and forth…” I think one of the things Sam is thinking about is how he no longer wants to have it in high school. That’s where it took place and what made sense at that time. There’s a lot of back and forth about where to set it, how far in the future to set it, and other things when you take it out of that. But I think he’s excited about a take, and he’s writing away.
In the same interview, Bloys also said that the main players would play their parts again when the time came. Bloys said, “It’s the same core cast,” when asked if the main cast would return for season 3 if it takes place somewhere other than high school or if the show would look at getting a new cast. Which brings us to the next point…
Meet the Cast of Euphoria Season 3:
The main cast of Euphoria will definitely be back for euphoria season 3. Hunter Schafer plays Jules Vaughn, Maude Apatow plays Lexi Howard, Sydney Sweeney plays Cassie Howard, Alexa Demie plays Maddy Perez, and Jacob Elordi plays Nate Jacobs.
Conor Angus Cloud, who played Fezco “Fez” O’Neill in the main group, died of an accidental overdose on July 31, 2023. He was 25 years old. People from Cloud’s Euphoria cast and other famous people in the entertainment business paid respect to him after he died.
In a sad post on social media, Zendaya said, “Words are not enough to describe the infinite beauty that is Angus (Conor).” “I’m so thankful I got to know him in this life, to call him a brother, to see his warm, kind eyes and bright smile, or to hear his contagious laugh (I’m happy just thinking about it). I know this phrase is often used to talk about people they love… “they could light up any room they walked into,” but he was the best at it.
“That’s how I’d like to remember him,” she said. “Thank you for all the love, light, and happiness he always gave us.” I’ll treasure every moment. Right now, my thoughts and prayers are with his mother and family. Please be patient and kind, because everyone deals with sadness in their own way.
In 2022, Barbie Ferreira Departed from the Show
When it comes to other cast members, it’s not clear how they will return. A post on Barbie Ferreira’s Instagram Story in August 2022 said that she would be leaving the group before season 3.
In her parting post, Ferreira said, “After four years of getting to play the most unique and mysterious character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary goodbye.” It made me feel good to see how she changed over time and become the person she is now. Hope that many of you did the same. I loved and cared for her very much, and I hope you could feel it. “I love you, Katherine Hernandez.
There was a lot of talk about Kat Hernandez during season 2, with many people guessing about what was going on behind the scenes and how the actor’s friendship with Levinson was doing. No matter what, Barbie’s Kat was one of the best TV characters ever, and it’s so sad to have to say goodbye.
Will Dominic Fike Return as Elliot? The Answer is Unknown
Dominic Fike told Jimmy Fallon in February 2022, not long after the end of season 2, that his character Elliot would “absolutely” be in season 3. After almost two years, Fike is less sure that Elliot will come back. Fike told Variety at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival on January 19 that playing Elliot again “would be dope,” but they might need to get back in touch. Fike said, “I don’t really talk to them anymore.”
The singer talked about Sam Levinson’s failed plan to hire him a “sober coach” on the set of Euphoria season 2 in 2023. Fike told Variety at Sundance that the teacher was “just a random woman that I could never connect with.” There was nothing between us. We didn’t have the same problems or come from the same place. That person was awful to listen to and give a crap about.
The Destiny of Javon “Wanna” Walton’s Role Is Still Unknown
The biggest question might be how Javon “Wanna” Walton’s return to the show is going. After the season 2 end, we all thought that Walton’s Ashtray was dead. But is he really gone? Walton talked to Entertainment Weekly after the last episode and hinted that his character might be back.
“You saw [Fez] get arrested, so I’m sure he’ll be in the back of a police car.” And we’re not sure if Ashtray is dead for sure because you saw no blood after all, right? He didn’t fall, though. You heard the gunshot, but you didn’t see him get hit. So, there are some small things that might make him come back for another season.
That should also mean that Chloe Cherry will play Faye again, right? Also, who knows? We might get that appearance from Tom Holland in season 3 after all.
Has the trailer for Euphoria Season 3 been released?
There isn’t a trailer for Euphoria season 3 yet, but there is a preview video with the show’s logo and a big three behind it. When Euphoria first stated that the show would be renewed, the teaser was shared on all of their public social media accounts.
