Instead of the second season that was planned, a Chainsaw Man movie called Reze Arc is coming out soon. Chainsaw Man season 2 is probably still going to happen at some point, but the next big event in Denji and Pochita’s story is the movie.
We will talk about what to expect from the Chainsaw Man movie below. This includes rumours about when Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc will come out, which parts of the book will probably be turned into the next movie, the first peek, the cast members who might be back, and more.
Chainsaw Man Movie Release Date:
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc was released in December 2023, but there’s been no word yet on when it will come out.
But Studio MAPPA has been very busy lately, so we wouldn’t be surprised if they set a late 2024 release date. After all, they just finished Vinland Saga season 2 and Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters, which is the crown prize of the series.
It looks like things are going well since there is already an early peek out and the first season came out two years ago. The year 2025 is still possible, but we’re now in the second half of 2024 and there has been no official word.
So, the only thing that remains to be seen is whether or not the western world will be able to see the Chainsaw Man movie soon after it comes out in Japan. People in the US, UK, and other places might want to be patient and wait a few more months after Japanese viewers get it, if previous big-name films are any sign.
Chainsaw Man Movie Story:
The first 38 episodes of the comic were turned into the first season of Chainsaw Man. So, you should start with chapter 39 if you want to know what the movie is going to be about.
At this point, it’s not clear how far the feature film will go in changing the source material. We’re about 40% through the first part of the book, which is called “The Public Safety Saga.” Maybe one movie wouldn’t be enough to cover everything, though.
The Chainsaw Man movie will likely rush through the exciting Bomb Girl arc (chapters 40–52) and set up the International Assassins arc (chapters 53–70) for a second season, unless it goes on longer or into a second season.
There are no hints here, but Reze, the woman seen at the end of season 1, will play a big role in the movie and will definitely become close to Denji. There will also be a big danger from Gun Devil as the Division 4 of Public Safety and its Devil Hunters meet new people, both friends and foes.
As for Chainsaw Man season 2, we’re just as shocked as you are that the anime is turning into a canon movie right after the first season. There will definitely be a second season, and it will probably continue the story of the International Assassins arc. To keep things unclear, this arc involves Denji becoming more famous, which puts him on the radar of several hitmen.
Still getting caught up? The first season of Chainsaw Man was about a boy named Denji and his dog Pochita, who was a Chainsaw Devil. Denji becomes a Devil Hunter after taking on his father’s yakuza debt, but is killed by a Zombie Devil, which is one of many creatures that come from people’s fears.
But Denji comes back to life and merges with Pochita to become the nameless Chainsaw Man. He can become something like a living chainsaw by pulling the ripcord on his head.
He learnt how to be a Public Safety Devil Hunter with his partner Power, Aki, Himeno, and Kobeni for a lot of the first season. They fight bad guys like the Bat Devil, the Ghost Devil, and Katana Man, who they catch in the end. The season ends with Akane being killed by the Snake Devil. The team is now looking for the Gun Devil, and a strange new woman asks everyone if they’d rather be a “country mouse” or a “city mouse.”
Chainsaw Man Movie Cast:
The movie’s cast hasn’t been announced yet, but we expect the following Japanese and English voice artists to play the same characters again:
- Denji – Kikunosuke Toya (Japanese) / Ryan Colt Levy (English)
- Pochita – Shiori Izawa (Japanese) / Lindsay Seidel (English)
- Makima – Tomori Kusunoki (Japanese) / Suzie Yeung (English)
- Aki Hayakawa – Shogo Sakata (Japanese) / Reagan Murdock (English)
- Power – Fairouz Ai (Japanese) / Sarah Wiedenheft (English)
- Kobeni – Karin Takahashi (Japanese) / Bryn Apprill (English)
- Hirokazu Arai – Taku Yashiro (Japanese) / Jarrod Greene (English)
- Kishibe – Kenjirou Tsuda (Japanese) / Jason Douglas (English)
- Katana Man – Daiki Hamano (Japanese) / Jason Marnocha (English)
Hemeno might not come back, though, unless memories bring her back to life. If that’s the case, Mariya Ise and Katelyn Barr will probably play the same part again, this time in Japanese and English.
The roles of Akane will not be played by Yō Taichi (in Japanese) or Emi Lo (in English). Because the Snake Devil also killed her near the end of season one, which was a pretty sad ending.
Since the movie is mostly about Reze’s story, we expect to hear soon about who will play that role.
Chainsaw Man Movie Trailer:
We now have the first video for the Chainsaw Man movie! The Reze Arc teaser shows important artwork of, who else? Reze. The short video also shows some pictures of Denji. The video shows that they are getting closer, but Reze is keeping a secret that will have to come out at some point.
Where is Chainsaw Man Season 2?
It looks like the answer is yes. Chainsaw Man: The Movie: Reze Arc picks up where the first season left off and will be related to what happened in the anime. Also, if you want to keep reading Denji’s story, you should watch this. It’s kind of like how Mugen Train was presented well as Demon Slayer’s second season and was later adapted.
We still think that a real Chainsaw Man season 2 will come out sometime after the movie. So, the order of things to watch will be: Chainsaw Man season 1, Reze Arc movie, and then Chainsaw Man season 2.
Where can I Watch Chainsaw Man?
You can watch the first season of Chainsaw Man on Crunchyroll as a Premium user, both with and without subs. The Chainsaw Man movie will probably be shown in theatres, and you’ll probably be able to watch it on Crunchyroll at some point.
