Even though Gravity Falls had a lot of fans on Disney Channel, the show stopped too soon after season 2. But even though the Gravity Falls season 3 was canceled, its fans have kept coming back and grown, and it’s still a hit on streaming services. Disney must have noticed this because Roberts talked about the future of Gravity Falls in an interview with The Direct in the middle of 2024. “You know, we’re in conversations with Alex,” said the Executive Vice President of Television Animation and Disney Branded Television about talks between the company and Hirsch about a possible return.

Is a Gravity Falls Season 3 Revival on the Horizon?
Hirsch had already said that finishing Gravity Falls faster than most TV shows was a choice being made. Some fans may have been upset by how quickly the show ended, but the creator is still writing about it, and Roberts’ words make it sound like it might be brought back.
Gravity Falls could be brought back to Disney Channel or Disney+ if Hirsch stays interested in the made-up world and comes up with a way for the characters to get back together. Is a Revival of Gravity Falls Season 3 Necessary?
Gravity Falls is still very popular, and seasons 1 and 2 are still some of the most-watched shows on Disney+. But the fact that Gravity Falls is still popular even though the show ended almost ten years ago doesn’t mean that there should be a third season. Gravity Falls fans don’t agree on whether or not to bring the show back. This is mostly because of how well season 2 ended.
People really liked the current ending of Gravity Falls because it pretty much sealed the deal. It was a good ending to the story, and looking back, the two seasons of the show told a good story from start to finish. Fans have different ideas about how this could or should be done, but almost none of them don’t want to see Gravity Falls season 3 because they didn’t like how season 2 ended. If Gravity Falls comes back, it should be a new story with the same people, not trying to move the ending of season 2 to the middle of a bigger story.
There is a group behind the show, and Kristen Schaal has said what she wants for her character Mabel (via Clutchpoints). Schaal wants Gravity Falls season 3 to pick up a few years after the end of season 2, with Mabel and Dipper having grown up a bit.
“Alex Hirsch wasn’t afraid to make the characters older; at the end, they were 13.” I don’t know, it might be fun to see her as a 16-year-old or just to make her and Dipper look a little older. “Maybe be Wendy’s age with even more mature plots.”
Shows That Were Revived Long After Their Original Run Ended
Even though the show ended almost ten years ago, there’s still time for it to come back. A lot of shows have been dropped and then come back year’s later to huge popularity. A lot of these things have already happened on Disney+. For example, that’s So Raven and The Proud Family were brought back for a streaming audience years after they had been off the air.
It’s also possible for well-known shows that ended a long time ago to come back and do well. Frasier came back to Paramount+ in 2023, almost twenty years after the last episode played in 2004. Futurama is an animated sci-fi comedy that has been canceled and brought back so many times that it’s become a running joke on the show.
The fact that it’s been years since season 2 won’t affect how well Gravity Falls comes back if there is a third season. Gravity Falls could be brought back, but only if the story goes in a certain way. As long as Alex Hirsch is involved, Gravity Falls season 3 could be just as popular as the first two.
