We have a lot of superhero films and TV shows coming out soon. One that I’ve loved since the first season is Invincible. This Amazon Prime cartoon series is one of my favorites. There are many other great superhero shows out there, like The Boys (one of the best shows on Prime) or The Umbrella Academy.
A long time ago, it was announced that there would be an Invincible Season 3. However, fans have been wondering when they can see Mark Grayson and his friends again since Season 2 ended in April 2024 as part of the 2024 TV launch schedule. So far, this is what we know and what you can look forward to.
The Release Date of Invincible Season 3:
There isn’t an official date for the Invincible Season 3 yet, but there has been a lot of talk about it since the second season finished.
First, Amazon picked up Invincible for two more seasons in May 2021, so we’ve known for a long time that it was coming. As of this writing, the show’s X/Twitter account (see tweet above) revealed that speech recordings have been made since April. When you add in the fact that the third season of Invincible has been in the works for more than three years, we’re hoping that the wait won’t be as long as the one between season 1 and season 2.
Also, it sounds like God heard our prayers. Someone who does voice work for the show, Ross Marquand, told The Direct that he thought it would probably start airing in early 2025 at GalaxyCon Oklahoma in June. Co-creator Robert Kirkman suggested more in a chat with Variety (thanks to Reddit for the tip) at Comic-Con 2024: “You can expect season 3 very soon and, very, very soon, we’ll be telling you when.”
When do you think Invincible will come back? We think season 3 will come out in early 2025. The official release date will be announced in September. There’s also no chance that it will come out in two parts; co-showrunner Simon Racioppa told TechRadar that this “wasn’t the original plan” for season 2 of Invincible. That idea also seemed to be shot down by Kirkman, who told GamesRadar, “All I can say is that we are well aware of the fact that that [splitting season 2 in two] was not popular.” Things are the way they are. You know, we’re looking into things, and that’s something we’ll talk about for sure.”
The Cast of Invincible Season 3:
We think the following people will be in Invincible Season 3:
- Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson/Invincible
- J.K. Simmons as Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man
- Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson
- Gillian Jacobs as Samantha Eve Wilkins/Atom Eve
- Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman
- Chris Diamantopoulos as Donald Ferguson
- Andrew Rannells as William Clockwell
- Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien
- Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Sloan/Rex Splode
- Ross Marquand as The Immortal and Rudy Connors
- Zachary Quinto as Robot
- Malese Jow as Katherine Cha/Dupli-Kate
- Grey Griffin as Rachel/Shrinking Ray and Amanda
- Kevin Michael Richardson as Monster Girl and The Mauler Twins
- Khary Payton as Markus Grimshaw/Black Samson
- Jay Pharoah as Zandale Rudolph/Bulletproof
- Ben Schwartz as The Shapesmith
- Mark Hamill as Art Rosenbaum
- Peter Cullen as Thaedus
- Tatiana Maslany as Telia
- Clancy Brown as General Kregg
- Shantel Vanshanten as Anissa
- Sterling K. Brown as Angstrom Levy
- Calista Flockhart as April Howsam
- Michael Dorn as Battle Beast
- Mahershala Ali as Titan
Up until the last two characters, everyone from season 2 was there, so they’ll be back for more next season. The official Invincible X Twitter account announced that Battle Beast and Titan will be back after missing season 2. Since Dorn and Ali played these characters in season 1, we expect them to play them again in the next half of the show.
There are other secondary players who could be in it, but those are the most important ones, including Levy from Brown. If you haven’t read the comics, his return will be a big surprise. We’ll explain why we’ll see him again in the part with story spoilers. Anissa, played by Vanshanten, should also be in Invincible Season 3. From now on, the Viltrumite fighter will play a big part in Mark’s story.
Then there’s Mark’s half-brother Oliver Grayson, who will keep getting older quickly in season 3, start talking, and get his own abilities. Racioppa told CoveredGeekly that someone has been cast as Oliver, and we’ll soon find out who it is. Other cast additions, like Space Racer, who was strongly teased to show up in season 2 episode 6, could also be revealed before season 3 comes out.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is an actor who could have been cast as a new character in Invincible Season 3. In January 2023, we told you that a former member of The Walking Dead seemed to have joined the cast of Invincible for season 2. Just before the start of last season, Kirkman told TechRadar that he was “going to disappoint people” by saying Morgan wouldn’t voice a new character in the second season. It turned out that he was right.
But since Morgan shared a picture of himself on Instagram (see above) with a stack of Invincible Ultimate Collection books, we still think he’s voice acting someone. Maybe the Viltrumite hero Conquest? That’s fine with us.
Amber Bennett, voiced by Zazie Beetz, is one of the voice players we don’t think we’ll see (or hear) again. In the books, she breaks up with Mark in the second-to-last episode of the season. The couple breaks up in the book, but Amber has a small part to play afterward. In the season 2 end, their romance was over for good. We don’t think we’ll see her again.

When is Invincible Season 3 Coming Out – Plus Plot Rumors?
We don’t have a story summary for Invincible Season 3 yet, but we have a good idea of what will happen. Racioppa gave fans a sneak peek at what they can expect from the next batch of shows on one of the best streaming services in the world through The Direct.
“Half the fun of season 3 is like, ‘Oh my God, we have to deal with all the stuff that happened in season 2’,” he added. “All the effects of that, all the effects that had, and all the trauma that came from that.” How does that change who we are going forward? That’s great, because season 3 brings our heroes new problems to solve. How can we keep all the stuff from the past seasons alive in our minds and the thoughts of our characters as we move forward? That sounds really fun and exciting.
“We want our characters to keep on evolving, we want our world to keep on evolving, we want things to change, but still feel real,” Racioppa said. “That stuff is, you know, great. Like, our writing space is great. We all sit down and talk about it. That makes us think about how our characters would feel and how that would change them. We still want it to be a big, exciting action show, though. All of that stuff is then mixed together to hopefully make for a great season.
In the season 2 finale, one of the most upsetting scenes was Mark apparently beating his worst enemy Angstrom Levy to death. Hey, it wouldn’t be Invincible without them. Long-time fans know that Angstrom is still alive, even though Mark thinks he killed him in our story about how the second season of Invincible ended. No matter what, Mark has been through a lot of emotional ups and downs in the first two seasons of Invincible. It will be interesting to see how this new stressful event affects his early Invincible Season 3 story.
He won’t be the only one trying to get through another scary event in his life. Debbie, Mark’s mother, was badly hurt by Angstrom in season 2 episode 8. She will need time to heal from her physical (and probably mental) wounds after what happened in the Grayson home in the climax. April, who takes care of Mark’s half-brother Oliver, will help Debbie a lot with taking care of the baby.
When we talk about Oliver, he will keep growing quickly, which means that his Viltrum skills will soon be revealed. Mark already has a lot to do, but now he has to teach Oliver how to use his skills well, which will be very important in the fights that are to come.
We mean fights when we say “fights.” Earth needs Mark and its other heroes to keep protecting it from many dangers. That includes the coming Viltrum attack, which could be the main plot point of season 3, more action involving sequids (Russell Livingston just can’t seem to catch a break!), and any Earth-based bad guys who may return or be taken from the comics for the first time.
So, things are going to get grim and dark for the main character. As the story gets muckier and darker in season 3, Mark will get a new blue and black suit (see above). Because of this reveal, comic book fans will know right away where the story is going in season 3, but we won’t tell people who don’t know yet.
Mark’s love life has changed a lot since he stopped being a superhero. He broke up with Amber and is now struggling with how he feels about Eve after a long time. A version of Eve from the future asked Mark to tell Eve in the present whether he loves her or not. This version of Eve and other time-traveling Guardians of the Globe members saved Mark after his fight with Angstrom in multiple dimensions. But in the last scene of season 2, he chose not to do either, which sets up an interesting story for season 3. Will they finally get together like in the comics? We need to check it out.
Before getting to Invincible Season 3, there are a lot of other stories that need to be continued or wrapped up.
Omni-Man and Allen will work together to get out of Viltrum jail, for starters. After that, they’ll probably go to Talescria, which is the home of the Coalition of Planets. There, they will meet with Thaedus, the boss of the cosmic group, and plan how to fight back against the Viltrum Empire. If you whisper it quietly, that means that Omni-Man and Allen could become partner police officers. They could also begin their quest to find fan-favorite comic book superheroes like Tech Jacket and Space Racer and ask them to help protect Earth.
You’ve only seen the beginning of what’s to come. We now know that Dupli-Kate is living, so it will be interesting to see if she rejoins the Guardians. We’re still waiting for news about Shrinking Rae’s healing from the fight with the Lizard League, where she almost died. Another thing that will happen is that Anissa will return. In the comics, she does something to Mark that was very shocking at the time. So, it would surprise us if that same event plays out the same way in Amazon’s version.
There is a lot to talk about in Invincible Season 3. There are still problems between the new Guardians team members, more information about the future Guardians team that saved Mark (what happens to Earth and the other heroes in this future timeline if Mark isn’t there?), and even new developments in storylines from season 1.
Is There Any Trailer for Invincible Season 3?
Not yet, and we won’t expect one until the start date is made public or much closer to the time of release. We’ll change this part when one comes in.
Not at all. Kirkman stated on July 27 that Invincible had been picked up for a fourth season. This was one of nine big news stories that really impressed us at San Diego Comic-Con 2024.
That news comes almost two years after Collider talked to one of the show’s executive producers, Seth Rogen, who said that Amazon had already given the go-ahead for season 4. A studio rep told TechRadar in November 2022, though, that the show hadn’t been secretly picked up for a fourth season.
Thank goodness we now know that a fourth season is being planned. There are still 144 comic books’ worth of stories to tell, so there’s also a lot of ground to cover. The first season of Amazon’s version only covered issues 1–12, and the second season covered big parts of issues 13–41. This means that there will likely be many more seasons before the end of Invincible.
But in season 2, the show’s main creative team changed the order of the different subplots from the source material. Because of this, it’s hard to say what problems and stories will be in season 3 and how they might be remade in season 4 and beyond. With all of that in mind, we don’t know how many more seasons are needed to finish telling the whole story of Invincible. Our best guess? Amazon will need six to seven seasons to fully tell its story across multiple universes. We won’t be upset if that turns out to be the case, either, because we really enjoy Invincible.
Mark’s Brother Will Appear More Often
Like me, you might have found the fact that Mark now has a half-Viltrumite, half-alien brother a little strange. Well, you should get used to it. Obviously, we know that Mark’s brother is under the care of his mother right now, but Kirkman said that Season 3 is going to focus a lot on that character – as well as how quickly he ages:
“Yeah, you can definitely expect that character to age rapidly the way he did in the comics. It’s up to you to guess where we start Invincible Season 3 and what stage he’s in. We will see different sides of him along the way, though.”
Mark and Eve’s Relationship Takes Center Stage in Season 3
A big surprise in Season 2 was that Mark and Amber broke up for reasons that were, to be honest, totally reasonable. But who has a chance now? Mark and Eve.
Some of the scenes we saw in Season 2 showed that these two have a bit of spark. Kirkman also stated that Season 3 will focus on the basics of who they are together and a “core aspect:”
“What you see at the end of Season 2 is almost the start of how their relationship will change over time.” What their friendship is, where it goes, and how it changes and grows is going to be one of the main stories of Season 3. It’s still not clear if they’re officially together or not. There is a lot going on with Mark and Eve, though, and it should continue into Season 3 and hopefully beyond.”
Omni-Man Set for a Larger Role in Season 3
Another big problem with Season 2 was that Omni-Man wasn’t in it as much. I love Mark and everyone else, but Omni-Man was a great addition and a big part of what made Invincible such a great superhero show, along with Mark’s relationship with him. After taking a step back from Season 2’s complicated character, Kirkman said that we will see a lot more of that person in Season 3:
“In Season 2, it was important for us to show that this is the Mark Grayson-Invincible show and not the Omni-Man show.” It was great to see Omni-Man in Season 1, and he’s a big part of the show. But I was a little afraid that people would really love him after Season 1. I would like to see more of Omni-Man. We put Omni-Man on hold for Season 2 for a while. He’ll be around a bit more in Season 3.”
The Viltrumites Emerge as the Primary Antagonists
That was definitely the case with Invincible. The bad guys in any superhero show tend to change with each season or even each episode. Kirkman said that Season 3 will be different because Omni-Man’s people, the Viltrumites, will be the main bad guys now and in the future:
“The Viltrumites as a whole, especially over the course of Season 2 with Kregg’s order to Mark and Anissa’s interaction with him and the hints at more to come, have pretty much established themselves as the major threat to this show… Other bad guys, like Angstrom Levy, will always show up and maybe even become the main bad guy for a season or two, but the Viltrumite danger will always be running through the show.”
Every Episode Will Be as Epic as a Finale
Kirkman said in an extra clip from Amazon Prime (via Games Rader) that every episode of Season 3 will feel like “a finale,” but we don’t know when the show will air or how long each episode will be.
“Every episode of season three should feel like the end.” What a big season three is! There are so many crazy things that you won’t expect. And where things stand at the end of season three… “Oh my god, I can’t wait for people to see that.”
Could I please have this show now? Please?
There will be an Invincible Season 3, and we hope we won’t have to wait too long. So I guess I’ll get my superhero fix while I wait for all the new Marvel movies—but the Graysons will always be the best.
