It’s been more than two years, and still no news about when Overlord Season 5 will come out.
The anime Overlord began in 2015 and came to the West through the streaming service Crunchyroll. It was based on a series of light novels by Kugane Maruyama and So-bin.
Since Season 4 ended in 2022, the show hasn’t been seen or heard from. This is true even though Maruyama-san has been working on the light novels, a manga translation has come out, and a new series manga started in April 2024.
What Is the Expected Release Date for Overlord Season 5?
It hasn’t been made public when Overlord Season 5 will be out, but there are reasons to think it will be.
Kugane Maruyama, who wrote the light novels that the anime is based on, has said that the series will end after 18 volumes.
Maruyama wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account in May 2016 that “Overlord is scheduled to be completed in 18 volumes,” but he didn’t say when he thought that would happen:
Someone asked, “Overlord is set to be finished in 18 volumes (if KADOKAWA lets it be published).”
It was, though. There’s always a chance of making a mistake, like this time! To make things fair, maybe… some country will be destroyed in the beginning!”
It’s possible that Season 5 of the Overlord anime would follow what happens in Volumes 15–18 of the light novel. The people who work on the cartoon show might be waiting for the light books to come out in full before they try to make a fifth season.
At this point, it’s not clear when Maruyama plans to release Volumes 17 and 18, so anime fans may have to wait a long time longer before the show comes back.
In the meantime, though, movies of Volumes 12 and 13 are being made, which will at least help make up for the lack of cartoons.
The full name of the Overlord movie is Overlord: Holy Kingdom. It was first mentioned in October 2021 by Games Radar, but it won’t be shown in theaters in Japan until sometime in 2024.
It hasn’t been released in the United States yet, but based on how popular the cartoon series is, it’s likely that the movie will finally make its way across the Pacific.
An Overview of Overlord’s Plot:
In the isekai cartoon Overlord, a character gets sucked into the world of an MMO. That is a popular idea in anime. Sword Art Online and the very good Log Horizon are two other well-known examples of the trope. Hey, it’s fun, so who cares how unique it is?
The main character, Momonga (later Ains Ooal Gown), isn’t really a hero like the others in this category. Rather than trying to figure out what happened to him and see if it’s happened to anyone else, he’s just looking for some good old-fashioned world dominance. Despite the fact that he’s not stupid, most of his plans work out because his employees are incredibly smart or he’s just very lucky.
Some people say that Ains Ooal Gown is too strong, but his luck and friends are often what keep him going. He starts by testing the limits of what he can do and seeing what he can get away with. Over the course of the seasons, he ends up taking over an entire country, attacking and wiping out another one, and even creating vassal states. His mood dampener, which turns on when he feels too happy, sad, or any other feeling, is also a mystery. It makes him look more in control than he really is. That is, if there is a date for Season 5 of Overlord.
Possible Cast for Overlord Season 5:
Fans can expect a lot of the main cast to be back for Season 5 of Overlord if and when it comes out. This is led by Ainz Ooal Gown, who is portrayed in English by Chris Guerrero and Japanese by Satoshi Hino. Ainz Ooal Gown, a former salaryman who is taken to a strange world, has been Overlord’s major figure and protagonist from the very beginning.
There will definitely be some of the floor guards that Ainz has fought in the last few seasons. Some of them will continue to fight with him on his quest for power.
Some of these floor guards are the succubus Albedo, the demon Demiurge (who wears a suit), and the twin dark elves Mare Bello Fiore and Aura Bella Fiora.
The full list of people who are likely to be in Overlord Season 5 is shown below:
- Albedo: Yumi Hara (Japanese) / Elizabeth Maxwell (English)
- Masayuki Katou (Japanese) and Jeff Johnson (English) play Demonurge.
- “Lumière” by Saori Ōnishi (in Japanese) and Jennifer Alyx (in English).
- Yumi Uchiyama (Japanese) and Megan Shipman (English) sing “Mare Bello Fiore.”
- Aura Bella Fiora – Emiri Katō (Japanese) / Jill Harris (English)
- Satoshi Hino (Japanese) and Chris Guerrero (English) sing “Ainz Ooal Gown.”
- Yukari Tamura (Japanese) and Monica Rial (English) play Antilene Heran Fouche.
Overlord Season 5 – Possible Outcomes:
Details about what will happen in Season 5 of Overlord have not been made public. As a version, though, fans can read ahead to get an idea of what will happen next in the show.
So far, the cartoon has shown what happened up to Volume 11. The next movie will show what happened in Volumes 12 and 13.
Thus, Season 5 will most likely be based on Volumes 14–18.
Even though Volumes 17 and 18 haven’t come out yet, fans can look forward to what’s to come in Volumes 14, 15, and 16.
There is going to be war in the world of Overlord in these three light novel books.
Nazarick starts the war by declaring war on the Re-Estize Kingdom, which is in decline. This puts the main character, Ainz Ooal Gown, in the middle of what becomes known as the War of Annihilation.
This is the start of a fight between the Sorcerer Kingdom and the Re-Estize Kingdom that will last until the end of the light novels.
Because Ainz’s guild center is right in the middle of where the battle will happen, he and his fellow guild members will have to fight the magician clan for being too powerful.
After that, the story is still unknown, and fans can’t wait for the end of the Overlord story on the page.
