Today, X introduced Articles, a new type of long-form post. Users can write posts with text formatting, other X posts, and embedded videos and images. This tool is only available to Premium+ subscribers and verified organizations. It’s similar to a post on a content management system like WordPress or an article on Medium.
By posting an article, the company’s @Write account told people about the new feature on the site.
The social network run by Elon Musk raised the length limit for long posts to 25,000 characters for paid users last year. Engadget pointed out that the limit for a story seems to be higher at 100,000 characters.
This post by Chris Bakke shows that users can also add bulleted lists and text that links to other pages. Last year, X bought Bakke’s job listing company Laskie.
Notes, Twitter’s first way to publish long-form content, came out in 2022, before Musk took over the business. But while Musk was in charge, the Notes project was put on hold, articles without ads were killed, and the Income newsletter site shut down.
Musk did say in July 2023 that the company is working on a way for creators to post long-form stories with a mix of media.
“This will let users post very long, complicated articles that use a lot of different types of media.” “You could publish a book if you want,” Musk wrote in response to a user’s post about the feature that had just been named “Articles.”

Musk has been telling creators like MrBeast and Tucker Carlson, who used to host Fox News, to post straight on X for a long time. With this new move, the social media company hopes to get writers who want to post straight on the site.
